Day 35 of FF posting thru screenshots. December was a busy month for me in reading in 2024, from Galactus, all the way to Franklin & beyond. But to get into it lets look at Johnny. They never really nailed down his age in a way that matters. Overwhelmed, boyish, petulant, and unc all shown here.
Johnny absolutely fucking melting beyond any understanding of survival as the Watcher shunts him to Galactus homebase thousands of lightyears away. Off screen the Watcher says "TRUST me! Banihs FEAR from your heart! You shall travel by TIME SPACE DISTORTION! We must force open the very fabric of time itslef! Let it be done... NOW!" The most Archie and the gang Johnny's ever likely looked, smiling up at Reed thinking about going to africa and he says "That's the gearest! But look... can I bring my buddy WYATT wingfoot? He'll FLIP!" Reed says "Sure, Johnny!" and like, both johnny and wyatt are in college, but still this feels crazy. Cunty pissed off johnny frowning. Johnny playing with his nephew Franklin, his arms jacked, his hands massive and Franklin the baby adoring it. Johnny says "HEY, Frankie... you're looking more like your uncle JOHNNY every day! But when are you gonna learn to say FLAME ON?" Franklin the baby in baby talk "Fwamm omm!" Johnny "ATTA BOY! You ALREADY sound better than BEN!"

Day 34 of FF thru my screenshots & I have an anecdote about buying a home. When an inspector does a walkthru, & he finds some funk that 50 years ago would've been Asbestos, he can't call it that w/o testing, so he'll call it "asbestos suspect materials". Here we see Thing in "Cum Suspect Materials."

Day 33 of FF posting thru old screenshots & this is the second & last batch from Nov. 2024. Busy month Nov always is, 4 me but this one's specifically for Jack's goofy fucking faces. For how good he is, sometimes the mugs pull the strangest faces you've ever seen. I love it. Also some Stan misogyny.

Reed with a beaver tooth whirring some gizmos with Bob haired Sue looks on in consternation. Reed's face is wrinkled and kinda shocked, makes sense he's old with a speech bubble like this "Stop sounding like a WIFE, Sue! I still make the decisions for this team! A man's LIFE may be at stake!" and people wonder where the namor stuff comes from SMH.

Day 32 of FF posting via screenshots. Can't believe I could count past 31. This one's for the inhumans, who didn't work to begin with, get dropped 1/2 way thru an issue, & continue not to work til today basically. They're so frustrating but the Romeo/Juliet stuff from Johnny & Crystal is a standout.

Now with one stroke, I DOOM MANKIND!" Is it a press or a stroke Stan, come on. Panel 2 Maxi presses the button on a machine with a click and says "And, when it is done I shall rule the inhumans... and we shall inherit the earth!" Panel 3 the earth seemingly in cataclysm with the caption "Thus the fateful button is pressed, and one of the most startlingly spectacular sagas of all time awaits you next issue! To learn how truly magnificent a magizine can be, you must not dare to miss it! 'NUFF SAID!" two panels, the FF converging on the place lockjaw disappeared and the next the FF conversing in closeup. Panel 1 Reed:" THAT must be how the dog, LOCKJAW, seemed to appear, and disappear at will! His antenna creates some sort of mental DIMENSION DISPLACER FORCE!" Johnny "Call it whatever you want--! We've LOST them! I'll never see crystal again..!" Reed again "Don't COUNT on that, Johnny! We're going to see this THRU! There's too much at stake for us to forget about the whole thing!" Ben: "If you can figger any of this out, stretcho yer as smart as ya THINK you are! To ME, it's like the kinda DREAM ya have after eatin' pickles 'n gooseberries!" Sue, helpfully: "They VANISHED -- Right before our eyes!" Panel 2 Johnny: "But WHERE?? Where can they have GONE??" Reed: "I'll find that OUT, lad... I SWEAR it! I realize now that they are a slightly DIFFERENT type of life which evolved without mankind knowing it-- and they've combined all their inhuman powers for their mutual safety!" Sue: "Then Medusa WASN'T some sort of freak -- but rather part of a strange unsuspected RACE!" gee thannnnks sue Johnny Again: "Nobody can tell ME that Crystal isn't as human as ANY of us!" Ben: "Then where does that nutty SEEKER fit in??" Reed Again: "That's some-thing ELSE I intend to find out!"

Day 31, end of January & end of the easy numbering for my FF screenshot postings. This one's just an introspective ballroom blitz of the characters I had not mentioned yet as I end out October2024 of screenshots and show off the absolute bedlam that could occur or be introduced in these books.

FF day 30. Wow you'd think after a month consistency would develop. Guess not! This one's just another love letter to Jack Kirby. Whether it's building beautiful new mosaic collages unknown to comics at the time, or building a modern panel that I still think about, There's a reason to call him King.
An unreal stark collage of images layered and scanned atop one another to show space and both a natural and artificial satellite. A serious of panels whom I won't quote due to laziness, but to capture The Thing with the Frightful Four Medusa uses her hair to turn off the light that Ben was sleeping by, when it clicks his eyes open instantly in fear. It ROCKS. So modern looking in it's shading and also timeless.

FF posting day 29, through my screenshots of a readthru. They wrote some crazy shit back in the day. Outta pocket sexism, antiquated racism, lowkey homophobia, or unreal chemical warfare. It's good that this is left in the past -obviously- but it's important in context of character legacy & history.
Reed, doing what he always does, shooting someone he loves with a laser beam. This time Sue & Ben as vile looking green gas pours over them. Reed: "This isn't a serum, Ben! It's an OXO-SPRAY! It supplies the skin with a layer of self-perpetuating oxygen, enabling one to breathe underwater for hours at a time!" Ben: "That's what YOU say! It smells like a blamed does of D.D.T. to ME!" First, DDT is odorless, second, it's SO bad for people, long term effects are disasterous, and short term weren't a cakewalk either. The flippancy is galling. Reed, looking like frankenstein's monster. Bad hairline, mouth agape, and eyes spaced poorly and one pupil adrift. Reed says: "Not a fool, Sue... Merely a FEMALE! You COULDN'T have reacted differently!! But we haven't time to talk... not with DOCTOR DOOM on the loose!" What a fucking incel loser he is Idk who says this but I'd guess Johnny. "Aww, your brother wears knickers, you meatball!" This does feel like mocking GNC people, which I throw into the batch of homophobia. Reed fighting skrulls and yoinking away a big machine and swatting at a skrull with the device. Reed: "I hate to be an indian-giver, boys-- but I'm taking this BACK now! If YOU want one, you'll have to buy your OWN little erector set and see how handy you are!!" Reed, Wyatt Wingfoot is your brother in law's friend, be better.

Day 28 of FF thru screenshots. What are these a crossover issue? In 65 years the FF has made a lot of friends & allies. What's so notable is that early on they play as a bit of an astroturfing ground for other characters Marvel wants to highlight. Here's a '?' which of these don't become FF members?

Day 27 of FF thru screenshots and I want an easy one. Look at all these great weird guy faces. There's some meat to this week but as a calm before the storm I just want to highlight how good, (in an entertaining and artistic way) the fuckass faces look in quick panels sometimes. I adore it.

Day 26 of FF through screenshots & my journey therein. I readthru to prepare for First Steps. Did I like it? Kinda! Really uneven, but the cast is great & when it hits it HITS. I think if I'm nitpicking rather than critical, Reed's stiff. Even in the 60's this is the stuff he turns into, I missed it

Let's GO, Ben!" Ben: "I hear ya talkin'! Brace yourself pal!" Panel two reed's spring tenses up with a loud CRUMMP! sound effect as Ben gets to the very bottom. Panel 3 you see just the foot of Ben as the spring aspect has fully released launching him with a satisfying TWANNNG! sfx. Ben: "GERONIMO!" Reed: "Don't miss Ben! DON'T MISS!" Reed looking like a Dark Souls 1 slime falling from the ceiling of the Depths as Sue and Johnny look on. Torch: "Something Desceding thru a crack in the ceiling! It looks like--!" Sue: "It IS! Day 25 of FF through the ages and my read of all the FF books. I want to highlight some of Sue's fits and looks. She's barely a character in some of the books atp & is often just a DiD. That said, she's so god damned cute filled with gender goals and occasionally really powerful.
Bob hair sue in the absolute cutest apron white with pink trim & a frilled shoulder accent OVER her FF costume because she KNOWS shit can go bad and she may be the 'perfect' housewife cooking and cleaning, but she's also ready to snap a mother fucker in half if need be. I was also reading all of Gwenpool at this point and the second run gets a FF book. Gwen and Spidey are wrapped up within stretched out Reed whose waiting for them to get picked up by Shield. Reed looks bored as the kids bicker inside him and Sue sits with him debatably patiently. Gwen "Stop! you're making it sound bad!" Spiderman "It IS bad! That's the kind of thing bad people do!" Reed, the smartest man on the planet says "Is this how it feels to be pr--" Sue interrupts, seemingly annoyed and flatly says "No." She's so good when she's a character you guys. The alt text describes them as eventually good, but Stan and Jack also did make them fun and loving sometimes too. Sue being a fun character and more importantly a person. Reed with messed hair is stretching out to grab Sue playfully when she's invisible, while Johnny watches on amused. Reed " I may not be able to SEE you, but I'll STILL teach you not to go around mussing my hair, young lady!" Sue "Would you rather I muss some OTHER man's hair?" Also idk what it is, but sans background the art in this panel looks incredibly modern. I just love it. Sue sitting and saying "Break Out!" but she is thicc as fuck, it's kinda crazy. Girl is the most pair shape person in the world. I'm looking respectfully (which is maybe debatable.)

Day 24, FF posting, Onto October of 2024 in my read through. Jack's always been on one, but he always LOVED drawing Thing and as time went on he really started to NAIL it. We're maybe 2 years into the success if that and he's so clearly detailed. The only thing missing is the baby blues.

Day 23 of FF posting screenshots, & it is the end of my first month of reading FF Sept'23 so I'm hilighting my favorite letters to the editor. I fucking love these pages & want to say, WOMEN GET COMICS. Everytime without fail a woman or girl writes in, they're right. No other group has that hitrate.

Day 20, FF readthru via screenshots. Jack Kirby, either through necessity or indifference had a penchant for off model designs in brief shots and background dudes. They're never over simple, like modern books (which I'm not knocking) they're always manically detailed in a way that's so charming.

Day 19, Huzzah & etc. FF screenshots thru my read. Comics used to have stones. You'd just have a book where a KKK garbed Hitler was the villain for a book and dress down nazis for 20 pages. Now it's all gotta be subtle. Fuck fascists the old men in the 60's got this one thing consistently right.

Day 18 of FF thru screenshots and it's time to talk about Rama Tut. There was a thing maybe millenials and above had where kids were interested in one of four things. Space, Cowboys, the Ocean, or Egypt. Rama Tut, as Doom, Kang, or Reed's kid is an example of that from the 60s & I think that's neat.

That said it's all clearly Jacks Chariots of the Gods BS that he was always on so I'll save you from it. Day 17, almost grown! FF, screenshots, you get it. Just want to say the continued and constant antagonism of Johnny and Ben kills me. It's so great and the friction really seems like it matters, it's more toothless in a modern sense, but it was a great framework to start a real lasting friendship.
Johnny, in full torch mode says "Well, I'll be hanged...!!" and Ben, without missing a beat says "Probably, Son... Probably!" Johnny's flying off to save the day as Reed consoles a 'weakened' Sue and Ben watches in the foreground. Reed "Easy Honey -- you're safe now! The plan worked perfectly! Day 16, hey wait, don't look at the date shh I didn't already miss a day. Day 16 of FF screenshots cataloguing my readthru of every book. This day is dedicated to the first Suecentric character. Namor, and by extension, all the atlantians! Vulcan's a weirdo, but I love that we get the romance drama.

The absolutely stunning Namorita with big hair blue skin and a helluva attitude. Namor screaming in Ben's ear underwater as ben confused thinks "be-- but-- it is!!"

FF post by screenshots, it's day 15 and 5am, let's do it. Today is about The Thinker! A man so smart he can predict anything, and in the early days is viewed as a prescient computer. Predicting things second thru constants & variables. It was very silly and his methods and FF's response were grand.
Picture is a monkey holding a match trying to light paper on fire. The caption is as follows "Just as it was part of my plan to know that an organ grinder's monkey would accidentally start a fire in a deserted shack, thereby burning valuable papers which contained enough evidence to send me to jail for years! that's why I am -- THE THINKER!" Picture is Reed stretching up in a small room with Sue hanging around his neck and ben holding onto his waist for dear life. Johnny is flaming up as gas fills the room. Sue: "REED! The THINKER as hurled some GAS CYLINDERS at us!" Reed "It's not ORDINARY gas, Sue! I can tell by the odor -- it's a formula of my OWN!" Johnny "Well, Don't keep us in the dark partner! What does it DO??" It's always important to be able to identify your own gas by smell aye Reed? Ben lifting the thinker -with his bad hairline and green garb- off the ground by the collar while johnny and reed look on. The Thinker: "How? HOW did you do it?? How did you beat me?" Reed: "You overlooked ONE thing in your plans THINKER! There is always an X-FACTOR to prepare for -- the UNEXPECTED!" Ben: "Aww Write 'im a LETTER Reed! I'm itchin' to CLOBBER 'im!" As all early thinker stories are this is extremely silly.

Yowzer, almost missed a day! Day 14, FF posting, screengrabs go! I'm gonna shout out some of the letters that got sent in to Marvel re:FF. I love it and since I started reading these holistically I have never seen a woman I disagree with. This leads me to believe overall women get comics. Full stop.
