The cold air tinged with snow painted beautiful white curvatures in the sand overnight leaving behind a work of art as the tide changed. The curves were now visible to all. With spikes attached to my boots (finally!) I walked easily over the slippery sand.

A teeny tiny baby Piping Plover stands in the sand with a teeny tiny worm wrapped around its beak. Chicks weigh about 7 grams when they first hatch. They are roughly the size of a ping pong ball. They are capable of walking and eating within a few hours after they hatch.Their downy feathers are sandy brown and tan, providing excellent camouflage against the beach environment.
