There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd.
It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.

Canada is already in it with big fires and evacs in the thousands. The country looks poised to have large fires on the landscape from now until the snows come. That means Canadian resources will be overextended and not available to help others. Also, probably leads to smoke drifting into the US.

Tiny edible bullfrog (Pyxicephalus edulis) in the palm of my hand for scale. Often found in temporary pools or flooded pans after good rainfall. The lesser known and much smaller cousin of the famous African bullfrog.

Meet the harp sponge. We’ve observed this unique sponge only about a dozen times in the last few decades. The intricate structure of this animal is comprised of multiple vanes whose upright branches and evenly spaced filaments are arranged in a way that resembles a harp or a lyre. #MBARIFromTheVault

The bedrock here in the Flint Hills consists of alternating layers of limestone and mudrock, which leads to lots of little waterfalls and springs dotting the landscape.
