On November 20th, Tonga will hold its 2025 General Election. The democratic ovement, organised primarily within the Democratic Party of the Friendly Islands (DPFI/PTOA), is utterly incapable of winning the struggle for democracy.

In all seriousness, this is a very valuable project that absolutely should get the support of Oceanic socialists. Subscribe, read, contribute, disseminate!
In our opening editorial, we explain why Temokalati exists, the problems of socialist leadership in the struggle for democracy in the Pacific, and how socialism is necessary to establish a free, democratic, emancipated Pacific.

Thomas Sankara was killed in a coup led by his former ally on October 15th, 1987. This coup was supported by French colonial forces - and Muammar Gaddafi. Without a revolutionary socialist party with a Marxist program, opportunism wins, and 'liberationists' become scabs.

Tonga's youth vote matters, but in an anti-democratic system such as Tonga's, their vote can only go so far. This is why in November, Tongan youth must vote for democratic candidates. But Tongan youth must also mobilise for democratic rights and against the nobility.

Tonga's support for Israel is a black stain on the Pacific, and a sign of Dr. Eke's increasing desperation to cozy up to U.S. imperialists for paltry foreign aid. Tongan workers and toilers must support the Palestinians.

People often overlook the #pacificislands and class struggle that takes place there. But in 2006, Tongan workers and toilers took to the streets demanding the democratic reforms that politicians had agitated for over decades prior. This culminated in a long, destructive riot.
