It sucks that we have to write this same article over and over again every year, but I always appreciate it when larger media outlets do it, even if they never quite hit the most important point: that we won't solve this without confronting car dependency itself.

Certainly something to be said about being consistent and doing what works even if it is considered unpopular. Michigan dropping the ball and only allowing itself to further lag behind.

Michigan, when?
BOOM! The North Carolina State House just unanimously (107 to 0) passed a ban on parking minimums in new developments statewide.

This is powerful and bipartisan pro-housing reform that will make it easier to expand multifamily housing. Great work.

Talked with some neighbors and learned that it was only during the day they blocked it off. There was nobody there later on in the evening leading up to the fireworks.

Went over to Lakewood East park today confirms this as there was an absurd amount of garbage strewn about.
And the rub is that the community center is only closed because they don't want people parking their cars to camp out for the fireworks. Doesn't matter if you walk or bike up, closed because of cars.

Apparently they didn't close every park. Over at one that got entirely trashed. Why would they block up one park all day and not the ones next to it?

Without a library branch and the local community center closed due to the fireworks, Jefferson Chalmers residents in Detroit are left without access to a safe place to cool off during this heat.

Ewald branch of GPP library is also closed without AC.

I spiring to see this French city tackle pollution and excessive car usage in their city center.

Pollution significantly down as it stands with plans to take it further. Detroit should be planning similarly to prepare for population rises.
