More than 40,000 people reported feeling shaking when a M4.1 earthquake struck eastern Tennessee this morning.

Unusual? Maybe not: this is part of the Eastern Tennessee Seismic Zone. But the jury is still out on exactly why those earthquakes are occurring…

Today's #earthquake near Mandalay, Myanmar, had magnitude Mw 7.7 to 7.9.

Prelim. source models point to rupture duration & length of ~120s and at least 200km. It likely filled large part of seismic gap S of Sagaing (previous rupture in 1839) ⚒️ 🧪

I posted earlier that the M7.7 earthquake in Myanmar hits hard personally. I have a professional interest & also have family connections there. For now, I’d like to think about good things, such as the 2018 trip where I was an instructor in a “Paleoseismology field camp” we ran near Mandalay. 1/4
