At @royalholloway.bsky.social for the @polstudiesassoc.bsky.social Teaching & Learning conference. RHU hosted the first of these in 2008 - so great to be back here.

Walking in London today, passed The Clement Atlee near Limehouse station. Has anyone done a list of pubs named after Prime Ministers?

Looking forward to attending and speaking at the launch of the ASPIRE network this afternoon. Nothing better than talking about teaching, scholarship and political science/ IR.

Great start to @polstudiesassoc.bsky.social conference, meeting with so many talented early career academics and discussing how to get started in the job market. Challenging times, but still some great opportunities in the sector and beyond.
In our “CV Workshop”, the panellists shared valuable tips on how to showcase your experience and publications for an academic job:

✅ Highlight your strongest publications and teaching for the role
✅ Use clear sub-headings for each section

Statement on the Academic Freedom and Independence of U.S. Institutions of Higher Education
The American Political Science Association (APSA) is deeply concerned by recent attacks on the independence of colleges and universities in the United States. Over the past few weeks, there have been instances of hundreds of millions of dollars of federal grants and contracts for colleges and universities being cancelled or suspended, paired with promises of reinstating funding in return for compliance with a list of demands for institutional overhaul.

Nice idea. I used to hypothesise that a good way to motivate students to learn how to find a library book would be to give each a list of books and say that one had a £5 note inside.
