This is a well-written piece on how education should better cater to how knowledge actually exists in the brain.
New on Substack: New post: Why does dividing curriculum into knowledge components feel so unstable? Because we're imposing localist structure on a distributed system. The brain doesn't store knowledge in pieces. profbeckyallen.substack.com/p/curriculum...

Want to build students’ capacity for critical analysis and discussions? Try pairing images with texts—like playing the new Supergirl trailer when discussing The Scarlet Letter!

Here are some ideas and best practices. 🖼️📗

I'm testing out the #OpenVibe app for my social media accounts that I really care about. Is it possible to replace multiple apps with just one? Would you consider using it?

Handwriting vs Keyboard Choosing the Right Tool

Hand vs keyboard: it’s not a binary choice! Research shows that while handwriting offers a small learning edge, the "best" tool depends on your goal, study technique, and time. Let’s dive into the nuances of digital vs physical note-taking. 📝💻 #EduSky

Media is currently debating why students don't raise their hands as much anymore ✋. But is "hands in the air" really the best metric for learning? I’m not convinced that more hand-raising is the way forward for a modern, inclusive classroom. 🧵 #EduSky #Education #Pedagogy

Expertise gets you in the room, but relationships make the teacher. It’s the human connection that sets the foundation for everything else.
4 in 10 students feel their teacher knows when something is upsetting them.

These findings, from the Great Teaching Toolkit, should give every leader pause for thought. Professor Kime explains why belonging matters and isn't a "nice-to have".

Watching US politics lately, it’s clear roles have reversed: Republicans act like classic liberals, and liberals like traditional republicans. Maybe that explains why federal overreach now seems to provoke a stronger reaction from liberals than from the GOP? #USPolitics #Realignment

To me the salvation has been to ditch Google Chrome and replace it with #Vivaldi and use its built in VPN by #Proton. Search with #Ecosia or similar.

Ad blocking, cookie hunting and blocking tracker on my desktop and mobile has been a life saver online.
Today is one of those days where I’m struck anew by how *bad* the internet has gotten. It’s almost unusable. Clouds, apps, advertising — nothing is where it should be and it’s nigh impossible sometimes to do basic tasks online.

Denmark’s PM Mette Frederiksen is blunt:
If the U.S. attacks a NATO ally, the post-WWII order dies and America becomes the threat NATO was built to stop.👀

Is it just me, or are we missing the ultimate tabletop crossover? We need a definitive, high-production Stranger Things RPG. I’m talking full 80s synth-wave aesthetics, Mead notebook-style rulebooks, and a heavy dose of Hawkins mystery. 🎙️🚲 #StrangerThings #TTRPG #Gaming

How many years post-pandemic are we going to accept “unusually high call volume” as a valid excuse?

If it’s been the standard for four years, it’s not "unusual"—it’s just your new (bad) service model. A 1-week response time is the new normal. 🙄

A common problem with learning, whether through apps or other methods, is the emphasis on completing tasks rather than providing ongoing formative feedback.

It’s time we address the "engagement at any cost" model. 🛑 Algorithms prioritizing rage-bait and clicks over user safety are failing us. When a platform curates your reality, they must take responsibility for the outcome. We need tech that protects, not just provokes. #TechEthics #SocialMedia

Why are individual social media users solely accountable for crimes like hate speech, threats, and illegal trafficking, while the platform that profits from hosting and enabling this content is not?

Recently I had lunch in an ordinary Swedish school cafeteria. Look at this vegan option (sausage/meatballs) with rice and salad! Lunches are free for all students up to 18, and as staff, we pay a small fee to eat together with them.
