My Duke’s v. Hellmann’s take: I’ve done multiple blind triangle tastings and cannot reliably tell the difference. While raised with Hellmann’s, I now choose Duke’s because it has no sugar. (Yes, Hellmann’s has minimal sugar.) (Yes, this take is reliant on MY palate not yours.)

Starting to strongly suspect that if I don’t send these pieces out, nobody will publish them. My strategy of waiting for someone to break in and advocate for my brilliance has thus far proven ineffective.

Not just Haiku.

“I don't want to wrong anybody, so I won't go so far as to say that she actually wrote poetry, but her conversation, to my mind, was of a nature calculated to excite the liveliest suspicions.”

In the Mayan creation story POPOL VUH, two twins defeat some ancient folk because “These ancient people only wanted conflict…they are makers of enemies…they are inciters to wrongs and violence, they are masters of hidden intentions as well…masters of stupidity, masters of perplexity.”

A little over a year of doing the NYT Crossword puzzle has taught me this: I don't like Thursdays. I enjoy a great deal of variant sudoku, but I'm a straight-laced, missionary man when it comes to crossword puzzles.

Whatever the purpose of poetry is, that purpose does not change with the circumstances.

I solved my first Cracking the Cryptic Genuinely Approachable Sudoku on 08/19/2021. Today, I solved my 1096th. That's three years of puzzles. (365+365+366).
I solve 57% of puzzles in "one hat" or "two hat" time. Early on, many, many solves were "dinosaur" slow, but that ratio is getting better.

I worked for American Greetings HQ from 1992-1995. Just found this “to-do” pad they produced and provided to employees—even entry level paper pushers. Very useful.

5 topics I could talk about for 30 minutes without preparation. Here are 5 from me:
1. Brewing beer
2. The sonnet form
3. College athletics: "extra" curricular?
4. Cooking without recipes
5. What I've learned from going on long road trips
