there's that meme about "everything is clocks/steam engines/computers" which is wrong, because each of those inventions is a better approximation of a computer, the most general machine possible

Publicly espousing cynical resignation to terrible outcomes makes those outcomes more likely. It would be better of prominent voices fighting injustice understood this and painted a clear picture of what _should_ happen.
