Grad school tip: get a hobby outside academia. You don’t need to be good at it, just have fun, drop perfection, and let it surprise you. My watercolours remind me that unplanned things can turn out better than expected. 🙂

Came to Brasília for my visa interview and found a pleasant surprise: an exhibition with works by Candido Portinari, Tarsila do Amaral, Emiliano Di Cavalcanti, Cícero Dias, Salvador Dalí and others.

Lovely poem
I don’t know. I love this Joseph Fasano poem and have it pinned on my office door but I don’t know what to actually do about any of this.

I thought an academic career meant doing research around the world. Turns out the real PhD is in international bureaucracy. Every new contract = new country, new forms, new mystery acronyms… At this point, I’m one form away from becoming a minor diplomat in three countries. ✍️😭😆

The three components of the standard model of cosmology – inflation, cold dark matter and dark energy – are still misunderstood.

George Efstathiou discusses how this field has transformed over the years, and how much we learned.

The difference between the number of men and women listed as authors on scientific papers and inventors on patents is at least partly attributable to unacknowledged contributions by women scientists.
