If someone better than you didn't take a job because it's a low rate, doesn't mean you you take the low rate. That just makes it so everyone can pay us less. Stop taking every job because it comes across your desk. Have standard and make the rates rise.

It’s funny how my students will bring up not great lettering to me because of how they’ve internalized the lessons I’ve taught them and what they learned from reading the Essential Guide to Comic Book Lettering, and they keep identifying the same positives and negatives.

Apparently today is the 14th anniversary of me sitting down and deciding to become a comic book letterer (yesterday was the 14th anniversary of the publisher I was working for laying me and a dozen other people off out of nowhere). I really hope I make it as a successful letterer one day. 😉
