Putting this thread back up at the top of my feed because I just had an evening of reading some LeGuin and feeling grim about Things in general.

What is that thing that comes after hope is dead but is also in opposition to despair? I don't know.

(And yes I meant to say "malicious compliance.")
For those among you who are scared but non-violent - especially if, like me, non-violence is in your marrow - try not to be demoralized by the rhetoric that pacifism enables the oppressor. There is a place for you in this world, it is important, and what you have to give DOES fight back.
In case you'd like to know what LinkedIn is like nowadays when most of your connections are in humanitarian and DEI-related fields

NPR very abruptly turned from "Mostly good with some annoying centrist whataboutism I can scroll past" to "Actively harmful bullshit indistinguishable from the New York Times" and I do not like it

Hi everyone! I'm working on another vibes-based mix CD to help make my dad's days in the stroke unit more tolerable. The latest mix is called "Feels Like Flying"!

Share some songs that make you feel like you are flying whenever you hear them?

Here's one I'm including:

Waking up with pulled muscles and cheek bites from nocturnal seizures, being incredibly hungry, and needing to pee, but your dog is asleep on both of your legs, and you botched an Animal Handling check rather than Performance

I admire the conceit of "Good Boy" - a "haunted house" film from the perspective of a dog, who acts and processes information (and does not speak) like a regular dog. Rather than physical harm, the filmmaker based the fear on the knowledge that dogs have complex emotions and inner lives.

Target has distanced itself so much from anything LGBT+ that anything rainbowISH is called "multicolor," and a search for "rainbow" just pulls up a brand of dolls. Also My Little Pony shirts where Rainbow Dash is so off-model to avoid actual rainbows in her hair she looks like a different character.

Learned that "Bram Stoker's Dracula" was only NOMINATED for the Hugo for Best Dramatic Presentation

Checked the 1993 winners because what the hell could have beaten out that iconic film

Tom and I both simultaneously say "Ahhh they were right"

FYI as a not-insignificant number of my followers are "normies" (term used affectionately because I'm so weird), I will be reposting some Animal People art over the next few days - gifts for our anniversary.

It will all be entirely SFW - just cartoon characters. We have very talented friends :)

Strokes can cause personality changes, but for the most part my father has remained the rainbow of belligerence he's always been. Only difference is occasionally he apologizes for yelling, and every so often he directs a term of endearment at me, which is about the most destabilizing thing possible

We're in a historic reenactment town for our 10th anniversary, in an early 18th century tavern. The bed frame of our loft room broke (get your mind out the gutter) and we were upgraded to a corner suite with a fireplace that looks out at a smithy, brick kiln, and a tree that's gone all red & orange

They added a couple of DC dates and thanks to Tom's quick fingers we have CENTER NOSEBLEEDS

(The most expensive nosebleeds I've ever seen in my life lmao go to hell Ticketmaster)

Luckily they were THE band that made amazing light shows a thing, and as long as you're in the middle it's perfect. <3
Just sitting here, smiling at nobody, barely containing my rage that LiveNation's ~dynamic pricing system~ has priced me out of Rush's (well, Geddy + Alex + others) first show in a decade, and nearly 6 years since Neil died. Would have been my 15th time seeing them. Floor seats running $2k-$5k.

This took its early steps as Cheap Thrills, the first webcomic I ever paid any attention to (almost 20 years ago), and is one of very few I ever consistently followed. It's been a delight seeing SE Case develop.

Oh, and this comic fuckin rules - it's pinned to my taskbar.

Downside to losing 25% of my body weight: most of my Halloween wardrobe looks like I did an exceptionally bad job at creating a Napstablook costume
a drawing of a ghost with headphones and the letter g
Alt: Naptstablook, a character from Undertale crying. They are a floating ghost who looks like a sheet with eye holes and a mouth cut out. They are wearing over-ear headphones, much like the Napster logo.

The scream I scrumpt when I realized that Meg Mucklebones, the swamp witch in criminally underrated 80s fantasy cheese-fest "Legend" (director's cut only pls, the theatrical cut is a mess of continuity, editing, and score from start to finish), was played by Thee fucking Doctor Robert Picardo

I know this isn't my witchery acct - haven't been using it because I feel I've been "cut off."

Witchy friends, #witchsky, anyone - I ask you to light a candle, or ask whatever form Spirit takes, for soothing & mercy for "WAF." He's lucid today and knows he's been abandoned for years. He suffers.
I was able to call him again. He wasn't acting mean (to me) but he was PISSED. Still denies his right side doesn't work (common), but he was bellowing about how he's not getting PT so he can't leave. Even though that was contradictory and he's confused, he was legitimately advocating for himself.
I've been NC with my family for a decade. I knew my dad (early 60s), has had so many strokes it's like someone blew through his mind with birdshot.

I called him. He has no sense of time. The strokes seem to have removed his emotional walls. He was genuinely nice to me for the first time in my life.

I usually have 4 books going at a time but I haven't touched any of them all day because The Plague Dogs fucked me up so much.

Adams wasn't a vegetarian, and he wasn't opposed to research on animals so long as it served a purpose worth the sacrifice, and acknowledged the true cost.

Please remember, and spread the word: While donations of food are good, donations of money will go much further as food banks usually have deals with local stores and can stretch every dollar.
The clips and conversations I’m hearing about the SNAP (food stamp) cuts should be above the fold everywhere. It’s a scary time for a lot of people.
Families are already hanging by a thread, but the sad truth is it’s about to get a lot worse when SNAP benefits don’t go out in November.

It’s time to find our local food banks and help out with donations and volunteer hours if you are able.
