Some #aurora fun coming! Region 4334 has launched more than 4 solar storms since January 6. Some are headed to Earth! Along with fast solar wind picking up January 9, storm conditions could peak by January 11. G1 conditions expected thus far, but another storm just launched so forecasts may change!

The M7.1-flare today was quite eruptive! It even degraded HF/VHF radio bands on Earth's dayside for over an hour. The R2-level radio blackout was most intense over South America as expected for summer in the southern hemisphere. Expect noise on the dayside bands to remain moderate to high this week.

A solar storm could cartwheel its way to Earth in time for New Years! Check out the details inside this week's #SpaceWeatherWoman forecast. There is a chance we could see aurora down to mid-latitudes through January 2. Radio blackout risk rises too! https://www.patreon.com/posts/146980725

Happy Holidays! A festive forecast this week shows a chance of aurora at high latitudes with an incoming glancing solar storm blow. Also, flare activity is just about to pick up with some big flare players returning to Earth view starting this weekend. Risk for radio noise & radio blackouts rising!

We can expect more aurora for the Holidays! Find out the details in the new #SpaceWeatherWoman forecast, out now. On top of some festive fast wind, we have a new solar storm producer, which will be entering the Earth-strike zone over the next few days! https://www.patreon.com/posts/146271788

A new solar storm is hitting Earth and it is strong! So much for glancing blows. Expect aurora to explode at high latitudes within the next 15-30 minutes. The solar wind speed is still a bit slow so be patient if you are at mid-latitudes. The show will likely reach you, especially during substorms!

Finally, here is my commentary regarding these amazing captures. It all boils down to being at the right place at the right time!

Here is a shot from Southeast Oklahoma showing the deep reds during the same substorm!

Aurora tonight visible as far south as Tenessee, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Mississippi, USA during this ongoing solar storm. Here is the view in Tenessee during the peak of a big substorm!

So the big #solarstorm has finally arrived and it does seem to have a bent flux rope structure! The impact at Solar Orbiter hints that we could see sustained southward field for hours yet, so aurora views are likely at mid-latitudes over the early part of this storm (likely G2 levels).

Join me NOW for a LIVE briefing on the whereabouts of the expected #solarstorms! I will go over the current conditions and talk about what it means for aurora viewing, as well as GPS users and the upcoming 10m HF contest this weekend!

X1.1-flare now! Region 4298 becomes a big-flare player causing an R3-level Radio Blackout on Earth's dayside. Expect HF/VHF radio band degradation, especially near Asian Pacific, Eastern Russia, China, India, & East Africa (colored regions in map). A third solar storm launching too!

Here's a 3D visualization of the coming solar storm using model parameters from NASA, NOAA, & coronagraph views from STEREO-A & SOHO. The storm is expected to hit Earth early December 9. This orientation is good news for aurora photographers. Fly around it yourself: https://shorturl.at/JJEup

Wow. The 2nd big eruption from Region 4299 today involves the "core filament" I talked about in my recent forecast. Only part of it erupted, but it could lead to a dense storm! Here's a link to the part of the forecast in which I air my concerns https://youtu.be/s3_mnw1MPoA?si=MRTAKNSM4gYyVzqW&t=505

A solar storm is launching now in the Earth-strike zone! Region 4299 is once again waking up, albeit with only minor M-class flaring, but with its nearby unstable filaments, this is enough. Waiting for the eruption to finish and for coronagraph images to inform prediction models. Stay tuned!

Watch a coronal hole get blown wide open during this week's #SpaceWeatherWoman forecast. See how our focus changes on the big flare players, & why that's good news for radio ops. Learn why the current aurora shows are underwhelming, but things are looking up! https://www.patreon.com/posts/145119892

The big X-flare yesterday manifested in a two-part eruption, which is proving tough to model. As such, NOAA & NASA predictions are different. Both are shown. Note the NASA run has both "shock" and "bulk" runs superposed in a single composite. For details see https://www.patreon.com/posts/144874021

Very intense #solarstorm launch underway from old Region 4274 (likely to be renamed 4297). This storm is not Earth-directed (it is directed towards Saturn), but I would not be surprised if we see a radiation storm rise at Earth over the next few hours.
December 1, 2025 at 4:43 AM
X-1.95 flare now! Although not yet completely in view, old Region 4274 it is firing big flares again! This one is causing an R3 Radio blackout on the dayside of Earth now! Expect VHF/HF radio degradation over next hour, especially in the Asian Pacific (colored regions in map).
December 1, 2025 at 3:27 AM
Our Sun Wakes Up! Soon to be named Region 4294 fires an M5.96-flare at an R2-level radio blackout now! Expect signal degradation on VHF and HF dayside radio bands in the western hemisphere over the next hour, especially western South America, Hawaii & Asian Pacific (colored regions in map).

The new #SpaceWeatherWoman forecast is up! See the sunspots on the Sun's farside that will soon give us another round of big flares, Earth-directed solar storms & lots of radio noise! Activity could climb fast. Aurora possibilities high over the next two weeks https://www.patreon.com/posts/144547128

Bouncing in the blast wave! Check this high detail (denoised) view of a massive filament like a solar skyscraper. A farsided solar storm launch causes this springy structure to bob up and down in the wake of the blast. Taller than 7 Earths, it will launch soon, but towards Saturn, not Earth.
