Zero Divide (PS1) (1995)

Hackers led by XTAL stole sensitive data from governments all around the world and are threatening to release it all public but as a dare they're inviting them to a cyberspace battle to try and break the hackers' defenses in which case they'll drop their threats. The hubris of l33t h4xx0rz will always be their downfall. So we enter the XTAL Tower, a cyberspace fortress, with programs represented as cool fighting robots as you try and defeat them all and do a shift+del on XTAL itself. We see Zero, the blue and white armored robot program, doing a kick at a reddish-gray scorpion-like bot called Tau, although both the low-poly designs and their moves are often very disjointed and it's hard to parse what's actually happening on screen half the time. In the background, a giant screen with a polygonal Master Control Program-ass looking face (presumably XTAL itself) is watching your every move and shooting witty quips at you. A military looking green-brown-orange robot called Wild3, carrying a big gun and a freakin' knife in the other hand is confronted by Io, a feline fembot, with a Batman-like mask and pink cat ears with sharp golden claws and wearing robot high heels as robots often do. She's assumed a scratching stance that'll scratch Wild3's memory onto a scratch disk! A tropical jungle in cyberspace, probably cyber-symbolizing an area near the mainframe CPU that's very hot and probably water cooled. Cygnus the purple-and-gold ninja-bot is rushing towards the white-and-red dragon-bot Draco. He's doing a swoosh with his light blue laser-katana in the hopes of crushing some of that thick thighs armor Draco is carrying around irresponsibly. A cool thing to note is that you don't see the robots' names near the health bars, only their logos, giving the already stylish presentation an even more WipEout kind of feel. Another cool thing is that all of the robots can have their armor destroyed, showing their robotic endoskeleton underneath. Also sorry about some of the garbled UI, not sure what happened there. 👀 A closeup of Nereid, a multi-limbed beast with big claws and weapon drills that's also kind of a cutey with its pink and purple paintjob and doing its growl, showing its little teethies, looking all angy.

A quaint beach house basked in the setting sun, making the ocean appear like liquid gold and the skies deep red. It seems like Zack the funky DJ was playing some crap on the beach and is currently rising backflip kicked by Kasumi the kunoichi because she doesn't appreciate the finer subtleties of electro-swing music. Beautifully deep blue SEGA skies with puffy white clouds gliding over a traditional Chinese castle with a vast courtyard, currently serving as the battlegrounds for Lei Fang, the Taiji Quan prodigy and American pro wrestler diva Tina Armstrong who is doing a jumping hammer kick, just inches away from Lei's face who at this very moment still hasn't realized what's coming. Jann Lee, a Jeet Kune Do fighter is doing his best Andy Kaufman impersonation during his wrestling days, punching Tina Armstrong on the street, in the middle of the city with the largest billboard on the building across spelling out "WOMEN'S PRO WRESTLING". A fierce battle of minds, bodies and philosophies is happening in this quaint, lovely park where Zack the funky DJ has lunged with a forward punch, only to be greeted by the shadowy swiftness of the legendary ninja Ryu Hayabusa who is doing the secret Hayabusa clan handstand buttfist grab, making Zack believe that he got the upper (or lower as it is now) hand but has actually been trapped by the rock-solid buttcheeks of the ninja master.
