Sometimes I look at houses on rightmove with the mind of someone who wants to buy a house just to dismantle a particular feature. For instance…

Just progressed through a step-by-step "upgrade" on Windows 10 on the Microsoft slablet thing, specifically saying I didn't want to sync anything. Reboot. It then syncs everything. It's not safe to use, it does the opposite of what I asked …and I don't suppose Windows 11 is any better.

I do not want to spend my time periodically looking out of the window to check that Bella the cat, who is scared of the scaffolding lorry, has not climbed onto the filthy top of its diesel tank, perhaps in an attempt to conquer her fear. At the same time, I do not want Bella to be driven away.

Windows has a setting that can warn about what it calls potentially unwanted apps but enabling the setting does nothing to stop Microsoft installing unwanted apps and recommending other unwanted apps.

SDRconnect really doesn't like communicating with my shairplay device. Every time it breaks for some reason it must create a new OS device - though these don't show on the system volume control - only in SDRconnect.

Hello!

Do you have access to an x-ray system, CT, Radiography, or a few seconds on the LHC main beam with a homebrew pixel detector?

Do you want to take part in #xraymyadvent this year?

You know you do.

Day two of week two of our neighbours one week bathroom install and they're hitting stuff with hammers again.

One of those days where I wake up and immediately go to Youtube to verify my suspicion that there's no consensus on how to use a can opener correctly. (tin opener if you're old and British). Sure enough, videos of people doing it through the wall or through the top, both claiming to be correct.

Oooh, I've just seen the ad that my mother has clicked on three times now, I strongly advise against clicking on it if you see it. What'll happen is a series of redirections until you end up on a relatively convincing page that tells you that you've got a virus and your facebook account is suspended

At the transmitter site I didn't recognise the name on the cavity filter, but I did recognise the address, it was down the road from where I used to live in Chesham. Turns out the business-wreckers paid a visit. toniejeststal.wordpress.com/2019/08/23/i...
Interesting times ahead
After just over 30 years, in fact, two days short of 31 years, working for (ostensibly) the same company in its various incarnations, I am now unemployed, redundant. When I started back in 1988 it …

Neighbours have put an orange cackling inflatable skeleton, or is it a cackling orange inflatable skeleton? Apparently getting the order of these things wrong is a sign of … I don't care, my cat is terrified, just staring at it from across the road and asking me "Why?!"

So does Opus III - It's a Fine Day really sample Temper Temper - It's All Outta Lovin' You? For years I thought they just sounded very similar and if anything Temper Temper sampled Opus III but I've checked the release dates on discogs and Temper Temper is a year older.

I've asked it if there are any owls near me and it says there are, but I have to learn to look for them before they'll reveal themselves.

Given up on Radio X, dipped into Rinse FM but it's very distorted, not sure if that's the weak signal or just terrible processing. While I was listening I noticed Reprezent 107.3 go silent. A few minutes of silence now…

I decided to try to listen to Radio X. I think I've heard one new track in a few hours, but mostly it's stuck in the 1990s. Also nothing from before the 1980s, so really stuck in a demographic rut. Maybe that's what it is now, but Q102 wasn't like that.

Has Heathrow switched to new departure routes? I am sure I've never seen them follow the paths that several have followed this morning.

I am listening to Hayes FM. The local news presenter has described a local SEND school as having a "neutering environment". I think that was a misreading of "nurturing".
