Disgusting when Chief executive Louise Beardmore is paid £840,000 every year! United Utilities has reported a 131% increase in profit for the 6 months ending on 30/9. That follows ‘regulator’ Ofwat approving a five year plan to raise people’s bills in the North West by 32%, starting April 2025.
United Utilities just hiked your bills—and saw a 131% profit surge
United Utilities is paying more than half the profit to shareholders, exposing its ‘infrastructure investment’ claims as a PR smokescreen

Shall we run a national poll, Liz, on who the British public respects more… you or the BBC?

I don’t think you’d actually register a percentage.

Brexit detonated our economy and our politics. Since then, our country seems to have lost its mind, veering off to the right, reawakening the racism genie, ruining itself to try to hide the dishonesty and snowballing damage of it all.
And now Farage could be PM ffs.
Mindblowing self-inflicted idiocy

Norway, Iceland, Switzerland & Liechtenstein are in the Single Market but not the EU. Andorra, Monaco, San Marino & Turkey have customs unions with the EU for certain sectors. I'd prefer our first step toward rejoining to be more like Norway or Switzerland than Turkey. That means Freedom of Movement

As I’ve seen this confused a few times, please note that Robin Gibb was a much-beloved member of the Bee Gees, whilst Robbie Gibb is the BBC board member who also, totally coincidentally, was editorial adviser in the set-up of GB News.

I know, Bee Gees, GBeebies, a bit confusing…

Exchanging stories with people from other countries is important. Do people still have pen friends these days? I had two, one in US, the other in France.
We sponsor a Vietnamese girl through Action Aid who's the same age as our granddaughter. They exchange letters etc.
The Vietnamese girl comes from Khe Sanh. I suspect her grandparents had a rather tougher childhood than our granddaughter's.

What the hell is this Labour Government doing?
On Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy’s refusal to review the BBC Board membership of Robbie Gibb, Lib Dem culture spokes Anna Sabine MP said:

"This is the wrong choice...Gibb isn’t fit to serve on the BBC Board, & the BBC Charter gives the Government the power to sack him." PM should step in, she says.

I think we need to roll out the learning modules on how to spot fake news ASAP.
I've always felt that Johnson and Farage put self-interest over the national interest - hence their dallying with Putin and his oligarchs. But directly colluding with a foreign government to take down the BBC feels like an act of supreme treachery

Astonishing video, worth watching in full.
While agreeing in the round,
I've found this (below) both reassuring and highlighting of the need for constant vigilance. There is no perfect end state. See if you can see where the 'thousand year reich' occurs (also, that Roman Empire lasted quite a while).

And with no hint of shame, humility or personal responsibility, the Tory who detonated the economy with his mini budget and whose party trashed the place with austerity and Brexit, then scorched the earth with unaffordable pre-election tax cuts, tells Reeves to apologise.
