I love having a stash of beautiful Canada Post stamps. Sadly, it’s probably time to use them up along with my postcard collection.

Found some today, one for now and two for storage aka my crisper drawer. Curious to see if the taste improves.

Ate 6-7 Honeycrisp over the past two weeks, a thoughtful gift as I’d never have chosen them. Sugar bombs, for sure.

Apple 'Cox's Orange Pippin'. A classic, which in a good year is meant to taste absolutely delicious, and I reckon this has been a pretty good year.

It's a mid-September ripener, so it might be another week or two before it's ready, but I'm looking forward to sampling these at their peak.

Hands at side, please. Canadians need a refresher on anthem etiquette (as does Carney’s UK born wife). None of this phoney, performative patriotic hand-on-heart nonsense. I blame the distasteful Lich et al (i.e., honking convoy lowlifes). 🇨🇦 #ocanada

Toronto pool culture and swimming accessibility is a hot mess. The developer may be at fault in the Pinnacle instance, but the city bears equal responsibility for the poor maintenance, unenforced standards across the board. www.thestar.com/news/gta/dev...

I admire all of @thelocal.to reporting, and this piece on Woodbine racetrack is a banger. I love horse racing, even though it's a pretty dark sport. @nickhunebrown.bsky.social confronts the darkness, the economics, and the doomy shadow over the backstretch. Great writing too!

In hindsight, I believe it was a mistake to allow Sunday shopping. No common day to ‘pause’. I bristled under it as a teen but it made for a lovely day.
A project I've contributed writing and research assistance to recently is The Peterson Years, which looks at David Peterson's govt in Ontario from 1985-1990.

Here's a story I wrote on the battle over Sunday shopping. #history #onpoli

Gaslighting happens to those disturbed by noise. We’re told “it’s not that bad” or “you’re too sensitive.” No—we’re not. Noise harms everyone, even those who don’t notice.

Let’s build better soundscapes—for all. 🔇🌱

Hold on a minute Ms DiManno. I spent a fabulous Thursday watching matches on side courts. Took in the top two doubles teams in the world, and a super fun Ben Shelton doubles show. $45, plus TTC fare (which should have been free, as per Montreal). www.thestar.com/sports/tenni...

Empty Bikeshare stations are the norm in Forest Hill Village, along St Clair West past Bathurst to Wychwood Barns. But, nice @ridezygg.bsky.social at the farmers market yesterday.

Shameless clickbait, lacking in objectivity, and fawning over Toronto’s overpaid cops. Fine speeding drivers, install more cameras, and get on with it. Please and thanks. www.thestar.com/news/gta/the...
Are speed cameras ticketing drivers for less than 10 km/h over the posted limit? Here’s what the city said — now we want to hear from you
It appears that many drivers in Toronto are being ticketed for speeds that wouldn’t get them a ticket from police radar enforcement.

This is hilarious, and pretty much sums up the state of the public realm in Toronto.
🌳🌳🌳 Welcome to Tree Thread: The Sequel.

Ten years ago today — July 10, 2015 — Toronto kicked off the 2015 Pan Am Games.

To mark the event, 41 trees were planted along a section of Front Street East — one for each country or territory.

In this thread, again, I'll review the state of every tree.

Toronto Bikeshare really feels system-limited, not demand-limited. Users love it, and it is such a stunning policy success, I do not get why there is not much championing for additional resources. There's easily demand for another 10k bikes and 1k stations.
June 8, 2025 at 1:38 PM
Empty stations for weeks stretching along St Clair West, in Forest Hill Village etc. It’s great having access but frustrating the unreliability in that there are so few bikes, especially the e-bikes that I use for tricky errands.
Yesterday there were approximately 31,408 Toronto Bikeshare bikeshare trips
Most used station: Centre Island Ferry Dock (422 trips)
Least used station: Scarborough Village Park and 62 others (0 trips)
Active stations: 893
