This exactly sums up our US science infrastructure, which has been built over a century and is the envy of the world, one of our nation’s greatest strengths. And it’s being destroyed right now.
The 80-year recipe stoking America’s Prosperity:

1) Free-market capital investments in brilliant ideas…
2) enabled by Engineering Innovations…
3) based on Science Research in Universities…
4) funded by Grants from the US Government.

It’s time more people understood this.

Immune amnesia- it’s a thing.
One reason measles is such a big deal is "immune amnesia." Basically, if you get measles, you'll likely lose immunity you've built up over time (from vaccinations or getting sick).

This piece is from a few years ago, but offers an overview of the phenomenon.

Measles: The race to understand 'immune amnesia'
Scientists have known for years that measles can alter the immune system – but the latest evidence suggests it's less of a mild tweaking, and more of a total reset.
