The last week or so has been a bit of a whirlwind but big highlights were Scottish and Westminster Parliamentary meetings to urge governments to prioritise missing people - and leaving both with a clear sense of optimism

Beyond heartbreaking story. The thought that her son was groomed from the age of 6 and yet she didn’t get the help needed for him to escape exploitation. And that her worst fear has now come true. We need to do so much better for these young people and families

Nice start to a Missing People get together day, seeing our helpline promoted in my local station, especially as we know this is such a tough time for many who will be thinking about disappearing. Thank you @jcdecaux.bsky.social

Totally agree. Kim Leadbeater’s courage in bringing this to Parliament and the mainly respectful debate today fill me with hope. Most of us have experiences that inform our views on this, but I’ve learned so much about different perspectives and concerns in the past few weeks.
Given how much her family already had to deal with, it would have been entirely understandable for her to duck this issue and have an easy life. As my friend @katejopling.bsky.social pointed out. I am so grateful she didn't. She made it about people, not politics.
I can't even imagine the amount of emotion Leadbeater will have had to soak up over the last few weeks. Today alone, she is the recipient of so many of these speeches and the pain they're communicating. Presumably it's been like this away from the Chamber too.

Back for an APPG on suicide prevention for young adults and looking forward to hearing more about DHSC plans. 1 in 12 of all suicides last year were for missing adults and so we’re delivering an impactful service with @samaritans and police to reach and help people in that moment of highest crisis

At a glance this looks like a big step in the right direction- Care experienced young people 20x more likely to be reported missing so hope prevention work includes seeing missing as a sign early help is needed to prevent harm and tackle reasons for missing.
Biggest overhaul in a generation to children’s social care
New powers handed to Ofsted to crack down on exploitative children's care providers and transparency to be increased around their finances.
