Because of the Business of Widowhood, I was having a hard time digging into the two books I need to write this spring. SO I decided to hire a researcher to get me moving. Best decision!! www.dreamonbooks.com

Condition description for a used book I just bought:

"Excellent condition with just a hint of character. Minor signs of love, but the pages are still clean and ready for adventure."

The classic A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle was rejected 26 times. It inspired When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead, which inspired The First State of Being by Erin Entrada Kelly. All 3 are winners of the #Newbery Medal.

Keep writing. You never know who will inspired and where it will lead.

Hello #kidlit friends. I've compiled 2024 Publishers Marketplace data into this friendly pie chart.

Please note:
- data is for U.S. based publishers
- not all publishers/agents announce every deal
- some deals include multiple books/cats so numbers are approx.
- CB data also includes early readers

Not too far off the plot of the Broadway musical Sweeney Todd.

Books.

When buying books for gifts this holiday season, please don't buy from Amazon. Please shop at your local independent bookstore/bookseller. Ask for recommendations. If they don't have a particular book in stock, ask them to order it.

Support creatives, local businesses, and your community.

On a tangential note…

I suffered from a serious life-threatening poisoning episode this year, and am extremely grateful to poison control. They were terrific, monitored me in the hospital and provided expert advice to my doctors.

That phone number is still accurate.

Don’t hesitate to call.

It’s so odd… because nonfiction is so terrific, useful and thought provoking. And is perfect for so many kids.

I think perhaps because not many people are familiar with current children’s and YA fiction.

Hooray!

So that leaves me with the conclusion that my posts are the most boring ever then . 😂

You probably won’t see this post… my posts here seem to be invisible.

Is about algorithms? Hashtags? Number of posts or followers? So many new users on BlueSky? Fewer people comment here? Is this a common problem?

Am I writing the most boring posts ever?

Photo of my dog for cuteness/visibility.

Or it could just be that I am writing the most boring posts ever.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. Each year, the trans community loses too many lives, especially trans women of color, to hate and violence.

More than ever, we must stand by our trans family and support them, hold space for them, and insist the scapegoating and targeting stop.

Now.

There will be a lot of posts soon from people sharing how much they achieved in 2024. But, in case someone needs to hear this… it’s okay if the only thing you did this year was just get through it.

The album of a musical is called a cast recording or a cast album.

The album of a movie is called a soundtrack.

You love the Wicked CAST RECORDING. The Wicked SOUNDTRACK hasn't been released.

And you don't love the Hamilton SOUNDTRACK since there is no such thing. Yet.

I know several. The vast majority are travelogue picture books.

I was just at trivia contest where one of the questions was:

How many minutes are there in a week?

I’m terrible at math, but I would have known the answer to: how many hours are there in a year?

Jonathan Larson has saved me from doing that year equation ever again.

I get asked a lot by authors about word counts in picture books.

I say: It doesn't matter about your word count, as long as you make each word count.
