Because banning gender affirming care for youth includes puberty blockers which means trans people cannot access many services including sport and recreation post puberty:
I have sometimes thought, in my own head, "Why fight over surgery for youth - it's on it's way to being banned, the public optics are bad, it's so few kids, why not let it go?"
But I can't pretend I don't know of kids who wouldn't leave the house until they got top, and thrived after.

1. Given rarity, think about who would still advocate for surgery pre-18, how important it is to them
2. dangerous to override expert opinion for political reasons, same as eg vaccines
