Look, it's a #coverreveal!

Coming in July: RETURN, by Raharimanana, translated by me!

This book is a beast. It's taken me two years to do.

I've got the whole elevator pitch thing, but it always devolves into **emotionnnnn**. Rich and gorgeous and raw.

Preorders here: bookshop.org/p/books/retu...
Tsitsi Ella Jaji has shared the most beautiful way I've ever heard translation described. Kọ́lá Túbọ̀sún encouraged all of us to push publishers to sell translation rights INTO African/other local languages, as a surprisingly simple way to support literary production and exchange.

Today is great. 💜
The final event of Write the World: A Day of Translation is starting soon! Don't miss "New Directions in African Literary Translation" starting at 1:00pm PT, featuring Ibrahim Fawzy, Bethlehem Attfield, Kọ́lá Túbọ̀sún, and Tsitsi Ella Jaji.

Hi. Keep trying. Be gentle with yourself. Rest. It is worth it.

Join me online on January 28 for a conversation with Edwige Renée Dro, Ruth Bush, Ray Ndebi, and Sarah Ardizzone! We'll be talking about Francophone literature in Africa, or at least everything on the topic we can fit into one hour. (Easy, right? 😅)

My current favorite mondegreen/misheard lyric:

Can we go back? This is the moment
Tonight is the night, we'll fight 'til it's over
So we put our hands up like the Ceiling Cat told us
Like the Ceiling Cat told us

(as performed by Catklemore, Ryan Mewis, and Ray Pawlton) (apparently)

Okay see here's the thing tho.

As a family, we avoided the 'rona for 3.5 YEARS.

We get not one week into school in this 2023 year, and our 2nd grader gets infected.

(He's doing ok, the rest of us are still testing negative.)

so, I've been thinking
instead of a "translated by" credit
what if every book I translated
just said Title of Book (Jeremy's Version)

I think I have found the healthiest alternative to doomscrolling, and it's called Pokémon Violet.
