people will hear Lynch’s name and think of the surreal but what’s quickly emerging here is how much people remember the humanism and deep compassion of his work. gutted to hear we’ve lost one of most unique artists of the modern day, grateful for his work - often imitated, never duplicated

One of my favourite small David Lynch moments is when he tried to do one of those ceramic art cows for New York City and submitted this and was rejected.
A grotesque headless cow that says "eat my fear" NEW YORK (AP) - It seems David Lynch is too gruesome even for New York. The cow sculpture created by the director for a public art show is being returned to California without going on display, The New York Times reported Thursday. Lynch, known for the eerie 1990s television drama ``Twin Peaks,'' chopped off his cow's head and stuck forks and knives into its back. He also covered parts of the cow with a reddish, blood-like substance. ``I thought it was Charles Manson,'' city Parks Commissioner Henry J. Stern told the Times. ``I don't know whether it's shock art or schlock art. David Lynch should stick to his day job, making movies.'' CowParade NYC 2000 features several hundred fiberglass cows decorated by artists and schoolchildren and displayed on sidewalks around the city. Lynch said he was disappointed to be excluded. ``Don't you think when people tell you you're allowed to do whatever you want as long as it's not sexually X-rated that they should stand behind their word and show your cow?'' Lynch said. A cow by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, was rejected before the cow parade began in June and sued the city and organizers unsuccessfully.

One problem with Bluesky, at least on Android, is that when you click to write an alt text description on an image, you can't really see the image anymore. So you have to describe it from memory. Makes it kinda hard to write anything more detailed than just a general statement.

From Tess Fowler’s IG account: Today, just as I packaged the last order for the shop, we received a call that is potentially devastating. Everything has been going pretty great. Chris and I are doing well. We have been working and in really great head spaces. We found out we both have autism and learning more about that has left us with a lot of peace. Chris was back to work, and I was finishing up art lists. Then, earlier this month, we found out that Covid support we applied for, while I was down with cancer and surgeries, and unable to work was, in fact, not approved, and we had only a matter of weeks to pay back rent, or be evicted. Back rent that totals quite a lot of money. A LOT a lot. We have been on top of all of our paperwork, and even with the gofundme my friend ran for us, between cancer and surgeries, and now this back rent, it’s just not enough. We were granted a deal by the owner to pay it back monthly, so long as there’s a down payment; that deadline is Sept 28th (Cont.) so far so good! We almost had it covered. We were doing OK! Crisis averted. Or so we thought. Then today’s phone call: the owner, who made the deal with us, apparently did so without their lawyers approvals. We were told today the deal was suddenly off the table, and there was no explanation. So the weeks that we could’ve spent looking for and securing a new apartment are gone. In five days, the deadline is up for the eviction. Our rent has been returned. Even though we applied for the new back rent help program per the buildings request, that doesn’t even begin to be considered until October. And the waitlist for that is long. So the situation now is dire: unless we can come up with $20,000 by at least Wednesday the 27th, or roughly $7000 to get us into a new apartment by the 27th, we will be homeless. We love you so much and we hate to do this to you, but I will have to pack up the whole studio and won’t be able to work on Commissions until we figure out where we’ll land. Okay. The four best books I’ve read so far this year. As per the thread on the other site. My selection of the 4th book on the other site differs because at the time I haven’t finished Can Xue’s Frontier as yet. Now I did.
