I recently spoke with Bilal Hasan, CFFC's Flyweight Champion.

As he's putting together an undefeated regional run full of highlight wins, Hasan has also caught the attention of Indonesian fans, who are cheering him along

Ikeda Shun wins his 2nd consecutive All Japan (Amateur) Sumo Championship with an utchari at the tawara's edge in a fierce bout vs Twardorj Buchchoron of Mongolia, a senior at Nita University & winner of the Student Yokozuna title this year.

Ikeda follows (the now ozeki) Onosato as a 2x champion.

The bylaws of the Japan Sumo Association state, that for yokozuna promotion a wrestler must win two consecutive tournaments or "the equivalent."
For example, Kakuryu and Terunofuji.

As for two simultaneous promotions? There have been five including:
Taiho and Kashiwado
Kitanofuji and Tamanoumi

It is not out of the realm of possibility but both Kotozakura & Hoshoryu could be promoted to yokozuna in Hatsu.
According to Takatagawa ex-Akinoshima, head of judging (and promotions), "If Hoshoryu continues to wrestle well and wins the title, he will be able to reach his dream."

My first exposure to sumo was the Kyushu basho in 1963 when the great Taiho and several other rikishi visited the small military base where I was stationed on the edge of Hakata Bay. [I on left redhead my wife. Young Konishki opposite. Camp Zama Army Base Hawaiian Club circa 1972/3?]

Banzuke Scenarios, Day 14

Here's what to watch for to add some extra spice to Day 15 bouts. Sanyaku S1w Daieisho (8-6) will keep his rank. S1 Kirishima (6-8) will lose his and must beat Onosato tomorrow to limit his drop to Komusubi. K1e…

Yusho Prizes: The Herend Teacup
Senshuraku is upon us and tonight we will see one of our favorite gladiators win the Championship and hoist the Emperor’s Cup. But as fans of sumo know, the Emperor’s Cup is only the tip of the iceberg, the start of a rather lengthy and fascinating procession of trophies and gifts from various sponsors around Japan, and around the globe.

Nessun dorma.
The most anticipated senshuraku, I'm going to say, in years, is happening tonight.

Hoshoryu is ferocious. Tsuridashi(s) always astound, but lifting Kirishima up to his shoulders?!
Who is this guy?

Kotozakura on a birthday roll has never looked better.
He's primed for his 1st yusho.

I feel like we've seen a lot of kindness, respect and sportsmanship in Kyushu, with how guys fought a hurt Mitakeumi and with Hoshoryu checking on Wakamotoharu.

And then there's Abi...

Dude does not give a sheet.
