i’m predicting a complete unknown is going to middling/liked by audiences when it’s out but that’s a movie that really tapped into things i liked. a big hangout movie vibes in a biopic structure.

“Queer is less an adaptation than a cover that changes the original mood and meaning. Instead of a grimy tale of illicit obsession... we get a tragedy written in the aching poetry of disappointed gay desire”

Queer review: beat of a different tune
A superb Daniel Craig drinks and dopes his days away in Mexico and becomes besotted with a young man in Guadagnino’s poetic reinvention of Burroughs’ grimy, semi-autobiographical novel.

the brutalist: sometimes you experience a piece of art; whether it’s a book, movie, song etc— that feels like it’s existed long before you, even if it is “new”.

immaculate filmmaking on all levels using its post war setting to take us through every level of american ill to society.

saw the last showgirl yesterday w a q+a from pamela anderson herself. although beauty standards and motherhood outline this story i found it quite apt about dedicating yourself to an artform that feels like it’s falling apart. the ensemble all deliver hugely.

i read that cormac mccarthy article. icl it is an engaging read even if the writer seems to be treating this real and traumatic story like romantic fiction. misguided and irresponsible but i wasn’t bored.
