I think why I also like this so much is that in these worlds my profession is an inalienable part of societal function. It makes me sad to think about here where we are Underpaid and Underfunded. In the Isle of the Silver Sea the archives are just as important as the Crown and Country.
I like when books use the archival profession as the arbiter of what information can and cannot be kept (in the context of keeping the populace ignorant) bc like yes that's what we do in real life EXCEPT we literally will crawl on our hands and knees if it meant someone would look at the collection
