I just finished a day near Georgenthal and Tambach-Dietharz, Thuringia, Germany where the locals are very proud of the Dimetrodon and other early Permian fossils we've excavated there over the years. They love our fossils, and we love the local bratwurst!

Happy #FossilFriday ! This image is to celebrate the (almost) 25th anniversary of when the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology meeting was in Bozeman, MT in 2001. My (then) young son Darwin's first SVP, here posed under the foot of MOR 555, the T. rex "Big Mike".

Hi Everyone. This was just published on the "Conversation" website. An important discussion of "who owns history".

Fossils are scientific evidence, and shouldn’t be auctioned for millions to private buyers
Dinosaur fossils are sold for millions to private collectors. These fossils are scientific evidence, and need to be accessible for research and public education.

A thoughtful new post from Canadian Family Offices: canadianfamilyoffices.com/wealth/fossi... Note their lead line: Researchers and museums are left behind as deep-pocketed collectors scoop up dinosaur skeletons and meteorites and add them to private collections

Happy fossil Friday! Here - Seymouria sanjuanenesis from the Early Permian Bromacker locality of Germany. Easily the best specimen(s) of this genus ever found. #SocietyofVertebratePaleontology #SVP

Seen as I drive through SE Utah: the iconic Mexican Hat Rock - a Late Paleozoic rock formation where we've found bits of pelycosaurs - early members of the lineage leading to mammals. #SocietyofVertebratePaleontology #SVP

Happy fossil Friday everyone! Yesterday I got to visit with the staff at Petrified Forest National Park. PFNP is one of the great underrated gems of the US National Park system and the crew there is doing a remarkable job! #SocietyofVertebratePaleontology #SVP #VertebratePaleontology #FossilFriday
