UCL trialled hours-long surgical procedure to treat disease which causes dementia and paralysis
Huntington’s disease, a devastating degenerative illness that runs in families, has been treated successfully for the first time in a breakthrough gene therapy trial.
The disease, caused by a single gene defect, steadily kills brain cells leading to dementia, paralysis and ultimately death. Those with a parent with Huntington’s have a 50% chance of developing the disease, which until now has been incurable. Continue reading...

I think this is much more than a "blip". A powerful statement and I fear many more moves like it may be needed in the coming months.

Etymology of the day: to be ‘blowing a hoolie’ (or ‘hooley’) was probably inspired by the Orkney word ‘hoolan’, a howling gale, with a touch of the ‘hooley’ that is a very noisy party thrown in.

I am thrilled to share our new paper which investigates the role of continuous measures in linguistic diversity research. We found that children who are exposed to more linguistic diversity (e.g., language, dialect, accent) are perceptually more flexible. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

As a speechie I find visits to audiology and ENT for my kids so difficult. I hate the feeling I'm being kept in the dark about current/future picture. The monitoring with no idea what we're waiting for is excruciating.
