Well I mean we don't like to go on about it
Labour is also a lot more aware of their problem, which is why Re:State, a cross party think tank, can still have a big influence on aspects of government policy.

Few policy researchers have made as much impact with the department on devolution as our Local State team, great to mark the start of a new era with this piece!
Today: Policy Director, @stkaye.bsky.social writes to Rt Hon Steve Reed MP, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities, and Local Government, with his take on where the department should focus.

Fully agree with this great report. Devolving Homes England to mayoral authorities will support place-based partnerships which are vital to build more homes at scale.

In London, devolving to the GLA has built thousands of affordable homes in opportunity areas. Absolutely right to roll out further.
The UK won’t hit 1.5 million homes without a shake-up - could mayors be the answer?

In our latest Re:Think, Researcher, @seaneke.bsky.social, explores why devolving Homes England’s powers could unlock more housebuilding.

Kickstarting housebuilding in England is an enormous challenge.

In this report, Re:State makes the case for abolishing the arms length body Homes England and devolving most of its functions to the emerging tier of Strategic Authorities.

Last year our team made the first comprehensive case for an entirely different model of political support, in our flagship paper 'Grown up government'.

It's great to see more interest from the research community in this vital topic.
I'm all for professionalising the role of Special Advisers, e.g. with much better admin support. But the civil service can only do so much - politicians need to lead.

In 'Grown up government' @re-state.bsky.social argued for a new model, with more Spads, paid better
