Differential contributions of fetal mononuclear phagocytes to Zika virus neuroinvasion versus neuroprotection during congenital infection
Fetal microglia are protective against Zika virus, but primitive macrophages and monocytes promote neuroinflammation and are disease promoting. Different fetal immune and neuronal cell types are targeted by different Zika lineages.
