Every so often you come across something/someone that just blows your mind. I used to generate ray traced caustics in Mental Ray, very slowly, some 20 years ago. The complexity that has been tamed here to do it in realtime is outstanding blog.oimo.io/2025/01/09/d...

解説: Drops

There needs to be a new word invented (preferably one of those long concatenated German words) that describes the feeling when a Project Manager assigns you a Jira ticket that has no description, and you've never seen it before, and continually asks you when it will be completed. #tech #dev #agile

@vcfederation.bsky.social This is a long shot..I have an old Turbo Pascal program I wrote in 1997 that uses a third party unit called "Vgraph". I originally found this on a floppy disk at a computer fair in the UK. It has now been lost to time, so I can no longer run my program. Does anyone know it?

I'm starting a new personal project. What tech stack to use for the backend user admin portal? Ideally I'd use Rails, but its maybe slow and the lack of type safety bothers me. Also considering Go (Fiber maybe) and Typescript (AdonisJs looks appealing). Any recommendations?

As someone who is new to the hardware electronics scene, thanks to the #micro:bit, this is a welcome resource for a newbie

Errr 'brew install imagemagick'

Computer appears to download every language and framework in existence, with all versions and dependencies, for infinity.

I just wanted to format an image in a scriptable way.

This is unchartered territory. I've hit an error message on my custom Bluesky feed, and Google only has 1 result, which is no help.

I'm lost at sea, without a map here. I've never encountered such a situation. It's like pre internet

I know, I'll *takes a deep breath* turn it off and back on again.

I had an old IR blaster lying around (the thing at the bottom of the photo) so figured I'd see if I could interface it with the #micro:bit. So now I have alligator clips, an IR receiver and for good measure, an IR remote control.
I'm not sure I can justify this one as being for the kid!

The microbit can talk! There's a "hidden" API that has been conveniently ported to makecode. Queue giggling as the child makes a computer say "fart" and "poo" on repeat 😐😆

We created a reaction game this morning with the micro:bit. Now the game requests from the child are coming in thick and fast (most requiring some form of AI to achieve...eeeck!)

I got my 7yo kid a BBC micro:bit for xmas. It's amazing, and so far prompting squeals of delight as we learn how to code it. Its a great and accessible introduction to coding. Watch this space for projects :-) microbit.org

Are there any details on how much Bandwidth the Bluesky FirehoseSubscriber requires? I want to build out a custom feed. Running locally seems to consume about 2mbytes/s but I can't find any info if this is consistent, or if I can throttle or constrain it. It makes me nervous to host directly.

Hey, for anyone processing the Bluesky #firehose, here are a couple open-source libraries you might want to look at. They both give you a thing you can push "patterns" at and then feed JSON blobs and it tells you which patterns matched. Why is this interesting?
