Project Hanuman is out!
Why, annoyingly, I had to reassess Star Wars’ villains

I'm well attested as to having hated The Phantom Menace, well the entire prequel trilogy, and to having been incandescent with rage at Rise of Skywalker's racist, misogynistic bullshit. I'm pretty clear too that The Force Awakens took a turn…

I'm well attested as to having hated The Phantom Menace, well the entire prequel trilogy, and to having been incandescent with rage at Rise of Skywalker's racist, misogynistic bullshit. I'm pretty clear too that The Force Awakens took a turn far too far into fan service and nostalgia rather than seeking to reinvent the story for a new generation with new ideas and challenges.

He's racist, we been knew that. That's what the conniptions over "woke" and "DEI" and immigrants and everything else has always been about.

You wanna be useful? Rebuke this shit with deeds and hire us. Stand with us. Respect us and our leadership.

I don't need pity or condolences. I need a job.

Why does Wonderman work?
I recently finished watching the rather excellent Wonderman, the latest Marvel entry which sits in their 'Spotlight' space which focuses entire runs on a single hero. I had low hopes for Wonderman going in - it's been sat on a shelf at Disney for quite a long time and that normally suggests a lack of confidence in the product. When the maker of the story doesn't believe in it...well, it doesn't bode well.

Fab and thoughtful review from @reactorsff.bsky.social
"Stewart Hotston’s Project Hanuman is an epic story of life and death ripped from Hindu folklore and filtered through the wilds of space opera...at once thoughtful and rollicking."

Check out @bookjockeyalex.bsky.social's review of Project Hanuman!

Gorse, a sumptuous, tender folk horror

Gorse by Sam K Horton is set in Cornwall in 1786. All I know about that is this: Cornwall was a long way from London at that time and unlike somewhere such as the fens in East Anglia, it was far harder to reach as well. Horton's story is set in a small village on the moors called Mirecoombe, away from the sea and full of bogs, stone, windswept hills and huge skies.
