Always a joy to hear and see the first #YellowbrowedWarbler of the autumn and this morning’s bird was in the heligoland @hilbrebirdobs.bsky.social our joint second earliest ever. Autumn has properly arrived this week 🍂💥 also at least 20 Chiffchaff on the island today and a smart male Stonechat too 😍

It's fascinating to follow the lives of individual #birds, which is made possible through #BirdRinging. If you see a bird with a ring you can report it via the Euring portal ➡️ bit.ly/_euring Doing this contributes valuable data to our research, and you get to find out about the bird's history too. 😀
Details came back today for a colour ringed redshank we had on the Colne at Fingringhoe Wick EWT in January. It was ringed in Jan of 2012 (!) on the Orwell and recorded 29 times since, all of which before our sighting were on the Orwell. Not a bird that moves far, then.

Last few hours on Islay and we squeezed in our second delightfully dainty Richardson’s Cackling Goose of the week, this one at Cornabus … a lovely way to finish another brilliant trip 🎥

Not been a bad week for geese either - as ever the Barnacle and Greenland White-fronted Geese that make Islay special but also nice to catch up with the adult RedbreastedGoose, Russian White-front, one of the RichardsonsCacklingGoose and a leucistic Barnie as well as PbBrent and Greylag) #UKbirding

It’s been an incredible week for eagles on #Islay with many WhitetailedEagle (up to six a day) around the Loch Gruinart area and up three GoldenEagle per day mainly along the road to Ardnave #UKBirding
