- Doughnut quantification at a whole new level.

- Annually updated Doughnut

- Powerful new diagram 'the Baguette'
Doughnut of social and planetary boundaries monitors a world out of balance | Nature
A revised ‘Doughnut’ providing a visual assessment of trends in social deprivation and planetary degradation over the past two decades shows more than doubling of global GDP accompanied by accelerating ecological overshoot but only a modest reduction in human deprivation.

Today is the International Day of Action on Big Biomass

Please ask your UK MP to speak against Drax’s tree burning funding: tinyurl.com/yddsnsx7 & sign the petition against Drax's tree powered data centre plans tinyurl.com/y8b3ah3u

#CutSubsidiesNotForests #AxeDrax #BigBadBiomass #StopBurningTrees
Urgent: Please ask your MP to speak out against new funding for Drax’s tree burning
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has launched an investigation into the UK’s single largest carbon emitter and the world’s biggest tree burner, Drax, over concerns about its sourcing of wood pellets to burn at its power station in Yorkshire. This investigation relates to shocking revelations from BBC Panorama and Conservation North about Drax’s continued logging of previously untouched primary forests in British Columbia in Canada and Drax’s £25m payment to Ofgem last year for misreporting its data on its sourcing of wood from Canadian forests. Drax already receives around £2m per day in renewable subsidies from our energy bills to burn trees and the Government has recently undone stricter greenhouse gas emissions rules so that it can grant massive new renewable subsidies to Drax when the current subsidies end in 2027. At the same time, the Government is considering whether to grant Drax even more public money for its joint funding bid with the University of York, North Yorkshire Council and North Yorkshire Combined Authority to use its tree burning to power an AI data centre at Drax as part of an ‘Artificial Intelligence Growth Zone’. If these new subsidies go ahead and Drax’s AI data centre bid is successful, it will mean more forest destruction, more pollution of communities, more harm to nature and even more climate-wrecking emissions - all at our expense. The Government has not yet finalised the contract with Drax for the new subsidies and it still has time to reconsider its plans to waste around £1.8 billion of our money on a big polluter that has been fined multiple times for air pollution violations and that is now under being investigated by the UK’s financial watchdog. Please contact your MP today and ask them to speak up for forests, wildlife, communities and the climate by calling on the Government to reject Drax’s AI data centre funding bid and to halt plans for Drax’s new subsidies.

I'm starting my 2025 Movember journey to raise my total fund raising to over £10,000!

Would you like to help me to support Movember in their quest to improve mens health?

Please donate here if you can movember.com/m/stevemarqu...

Thank you
Movember - Home
Steve's Motivation: The Movember Foundation is the only global charity focused solely on men's health, so this Movember (and since 2012), this year I'll be getting on board here at Tesco's, so if you're a customer or a colleague please do come and join me. I'm raising funds to tackle some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and poor mental health. Help me stop men dying too young. Men’s health is in crisis. Men are dying on average 4.5 years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons. A growing number of men – around 10.8M globally – are facing life with a prostate cancer diagnosis. Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men. And across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males accounting for 69% of all suicides. Let's help change that. Movember is uniquely placed to address this crisis on a global scale. They fund groundbreaking projects all over the world, engaging men where they are to understand what works best and accelerate change.

This blog is my take on the Tory Party vow this week to axe the Climate Change Act. This is not leadership. It is surrender to the commercial interests of fossil fuel barons at the cost of us all.
Pledge to axe UK Climate Change Act backfires
The attempts to turn the British public against climate action does not only make no scientific or economic sense, it makes no political sense.

Why many Americans still think Darwin was wrong, yet the British don’t
Fundamentalists don’t necessarily examine evolution and then reject it; they tend to start with the conclusion that it must be false and work backwards.
