A record high mortality rate for #drug deaths in #Wales (2022-24), up to 12.6 per 100,000. It was around 7 per 100,000 just over a decade ago. Swansea and Merthyr by far the highest. NE England has the highest rate regionally across Eng & Wales ONS figs. public.flourish.studio/visualisatio...

Two thirds of the longest hospital waiting lists in Wales are in north Wales. Despite a drop in Betsi Cadwaldr, numbers stubbornly high at nearly 5,400. In west Wales, no-one is waiting 2yrs+ in Swansea at all and fewer than 200 in Hywel Dda health board. #health #Wales #NHS

Childhood vaccination uptake has slumped to its lowest in 15 years. How did we get here? This looks at England but similar issues in Wales too. Online disinformation, ignorance and cultural differences all contributing www.thetimes.com/article/0ed4...

A new way of measuring Welsh #ambulance performance - for around 15% of the most urgent calls - published earlier. Response to those having cardiac or respiratory arrest was within target range. Meanwhile 'lost hours' handover delays lowest for 4yrs.

Target to cut two-year hospital waiting lists in #Wales to 8,000 nearly met. But Betsi Cadwaldr still has more than two thirds of 2yr list while eliminated in Hywel Dda and Swansea Bay. Gen surgery waits highest in north Wales and it has all the dermatology long waits in Wales + most 2yr ENT waits.

One of the great pop-rock-soul singer-songwriters #DarylHall taking us on a 40-year musical journey in #Birmingham. He pretty deftly (IMO) adjusted his voice when necessary to tough demands he set long ago. Still a terrific show/band. Sara Smile simply beautiful. Added bonus of Glenn Tilbrook.

Looks like the new target to cut numbers on 2yr #hospital waiting list in #Wales could possibly be met after latest figs. A big But: Betsi Cadwaldr HB now has 54% of these longest waits and has been least successful of all HBs in cutting them since November. #NHS

My favourite read so far this year - a sprawling satire of London: tawdry elites, Russian money, people smuggling, all interwoven through dozens of characters - a doorstop of a book but hugely readable and enjoyable. Andrew O'Hagan's Caledonian Road. #books #fiction
