"No person shall" ... "hold any office" ... "insurrection or rebellion" ... "given aid or comfort".
No conviction is required. There's even a work-around with "by a two-thirds vote in each house".

Trump was indeed found guilty of “insurrection” after a 5-day civil trial by a Colorado court, and the state’s highest court affirmed by a 4-3 vote in Dec 2023. SCOTUS could have but did not disturb that finding or hold the process defective in any respect.
My question too. They’ll say he wasn’t proven guilty of insurrection in a court of law (cuz they managed to squash the cases)—but what about “OR given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof”? He said “we love you” on camera for the whole world to see. Even if the votes aren’t there, go on the record!
