Busy whittling down the accounts I followed on Twitter as I discover their Bluesky accounts. Adding the tech related people here and others to a different account.

239 down to 84.

Surely this is confirmation that Bluesky is the real deal!

2/3rds are here!

Deno, with it's ability to compile JavaScript based source to an executable for desktop platforms (Windows, macOS and Linux), has suddenly become compelling to me. So I'll be exploring this for a little while. Albeit slowly.

Deno features improved security, performance, and developer experience compared to its predecessor. It's a great time to upgrade your Node.js project to run on Deno.

@bsky.app Now we have "Starter Packs", publicly shareable lists, why are "Lists" public? They seem to be pretty much the same thing!

I'd understand it, and would appreciate it far more, if they were private!

LiveStore looks interesting...
LiveStore 0.2.0 (in early access):

◆ Schema-aware query builder for SQLite
◆ New example app: Linearlite for Expo
◆ Type-safety improvements & bug fixes

See GitHub for early access: github.com/livestorejs

My mind is slowly being pushed back to favour web development thanks, in no small part, to the concept of the "local first" movement!

The bad experiences of the past few years are pushing me even more towards the idea of "local only" with "local first" sprinkled on after!

It's amazing! Without any effort at all I got up to 20 followers.

TWENTY!

And then, without any further effort, I got up to 19 followers!

#SelfVerified my account! When you click on this tag in my profile and select "See #SelfVerified posts by user" you should get to this post where I explain I've linked my domain to my account such that my official Bluesky handle is @stephenfirth.co.uk. That's about as verified as I can get here!

An idea going through my mind. A social network where everything is end-to-end encrypted. Even public posts and group posts. I mean, everything posted "publicly" would need to be individual encrypted between every participant! By golly, I think I've cornered "inefficient"!

#Mastodon or #Bluesky? Mastodon or Bluesky? Mastodon or Bluesky?

After yet another less than convincing forced Mastodon migration, I'm leaning much more towards Bluesky!

There's just something about the splashscreen that says "this is gonna be a slick and hassle free experience"
November 23, 2024 at 7:35 PM
So, I can export my data from Bluesky and, unlike practically every other network, I don't have to wait 24+ hours for them to "compile" my data. At least for now. It is instant. The only questions I have are... what's a .CAT file and how do I uncompress it to view it's content?

Interesting that one of my accounts is acting somewhat flakey tonight. Just one. Also interesting is which one it is.

So, in forging yet another lovely iron rod for my own back, I took the opportunity to confirm my revised Bluesky DID assumption and managed to verify, quite easily I may add, that my original assumptions were indeed... *ahem*... dumb as fuck!

I am presently busy making a rod for my own back!

I suddenly feel like a dumbass. When I got my DID I made the assumption it was based on an encryption of the username/domain. But something didn't sit right with me, because the domain wasn't really involved using the thing I used to "generate" mine.

Now this is interesting (to me). I just did a search for "boagworld" and up popped a few results along the lines of the following.

So what is so interesting about this?

Look at the date!

2012

My guess is that there's something out there that can move your tweets from Twitter over to Bluesky!
In the latest @boagworld podcast, Paul calls our new editor "Dreamweaver, for email HTML newsletters". :) http://jgx.me/ez

There's two features I'd like to see:

1) the ability to have private lists, which I've wanted for more than a year.

2) be able to make a post that is only visible to members of the lists you select. The "Post interaction settings" screen only restricts who can interact, not who can see.

So close!

I've not used Twitter in a long time. Even when I did it was a very casual usage. So I don't consider myself to be coming "from" Twitter. The more I play with Bluesky the more I am impressed with the implementation. Just discovered I can pin a "list" to my main navigation bar. Excellent UX!

Dunno if this was.possible in Twitter or not, but it seems I can add someone to a list without following them. I can then see all these accounts posts in a dedicated list without clogging up the main feed.

Some good advice...
Here’s a good one to multi block some wrong ‘uns… this is how it works

1 Select the list
2 Click “Subscribe”
3 Select “Block” the entire list in one click

Boommmm

Bluesky is trying to keep this place tidy with healthy debate
Let’s help them to do it

@bsky.app is there a reliable DID generator available for linking accounts to custom domains?
November 14, 2024 at 10:55 AM
Can anyone recommend a reliable DID generator for Bluesky? Turns out the one I found claiming to be a "generator" (bsky-did.neocities.org) is more of a cheat using a resolve mechanism to lookup existing usernames to "generate" the DID.

If the username doesn't already exist, it delivers nothing.
