I’ve added the script for Wake Up Dead Man to my site. This is the final shooting script, so it has stuff that was cut and moved around, which I always think is more interesting to see than a conformed cleaned up version. Enjoy! www.rian-johnson.com/screenplays

1. Did you know that Girl Scouts has, for a long time, accepted trans girls and nonbinary scouts?

Trans kids are under attack. Every year, I make a thread of trans and nonbinary girl scouts you can get your cookies from.

Lets get our cookies from them this year in solidarity!

In light of my last post, in the midst of recent events, it may seem like I am angry about the wrong things.

Believe me when I say that I am angry about ALL of the things.

I just can’t find the words for the very worst of the things.

Every word, every letter of this is so true.

I’m not even in the Comedy-with-a-capital-C world and it feels like the already-few opportunities (especially union ones) for middle-class performers in all areas of the Biz are evaporating fast.
Chris Gethard reflects on the death of the middle-class comedy job: ‘The game is feeling progressively more rigged right now … We are being tricked into feeding a system that is going to do to us what Spotify did to musicians.’

Looking at social media on New Year’s Eve makes you feel like you need to end the year with some profound thought, some punctuation, some final touch which will have everyone’s head nodding in solemn agreement as they repost your erudite reflection on the previous year.

Sure, I had no idea just how bad it could get when I wrote this a year ago and I’m well aware that it’s going to get worse before it gets better and yes, this smacks of Little Orphan Annie about to launch into “Tomorrow” but dammit, I don’t know any other way to step into 2026 than to reiterate:
Whatever happens in 2025 (and beyond), let’s face it with as much strength and humor and empathy and grace and grit as we can muster… and hopefully, we won’t have to face it alone.
For some reason (ahem) this exchange between Holly Hunter & Albert Brooks in BROADCAST NEWS is on loop in my brain today:

“I just want to sit here longer… I mean… the feeling is powerful. Why is that?”

“Maybe the best part of your life is over and you don’t want to get up and start the bad part.”

When all the boxes in the giant checklist called Christmas are finally ticked, please take a sec to add a box for you, whether it’s another slice of the deliciousness you made or looking at the lovely halls you decked or thinking about how lucky you are to know all those folks you sent cards to.

Took my final Broadway bow when I departed from AVENUE Q twenty (!) years ago tonight.

Time flies.

But instead of feeling maudlin, here’s a fun little story that somehow feels apt for our times.

We need more mensches in this weary world.

Unabashedly menschy mensches who are already so beloved that they don’t even need to be mensches on top of it, but they still strive for menschiness because that’s how much of a mensch they are.

And now there’s a huge Rob Reiner-shaped void of them.

get thee to @tcmtv.bsky.social right now for the TCM premiere of MARY POPPINS, whether it’s in celebration of the one and only Dick Van Dyke’s 100th birthday today… whether it’s just because it’s perfect… or both.

Thank you to all of the friends and total strangers here in the Sky for the genuine loveliness over the past few days. I truly appreciate every kind word, emoji, gif, boost, and like.
I’m not one to horn-toot but I am so happy to have received my first Emmy nomination for this show and for these characters I love playing so dang much... and so very grateful to be sharing a category with my incredible friends.

I was convinced this would never happen.

I treasure this nomination.

It’s not like I needed another reason to put this incredible artist on a pedestal… but let’s throw this onto the pile…

Happy birthday to the late, great Garry K. Marshall, who decided it would be November 13 when Felix Unger was asked to remove himself from his place of residence (that request coming from from his wife) so that his kids would remember his birthday.

THAT’S an old-school showrunner flex for you.
