week 4: struggled with these charcoal drawings, couldnt loosen up and let my piece of charcoal direct the piexe at first but finally got there in the end. A lovely exercise I want to try again and again.

have never painted a portrait before so it feels very exciting to learn something new but also painting feels a little like coming home.

week 3: after a warm up studying face proportions, scaled up our photos on an A4 canvas and put down the flats for our portraits. Will work on the actual face next week as well as a few tweaks to the hairs shape.

Artemisia Gentileschi. One of the earliest women on the Baroque painting scene. She used intense colour and depth of shadow in her work. Nowadays her work is viewed as a cathartic expressions of the injustice she faced.

Have recently started a painting and drawing course so will be sharing my progress here over the next five weeks.

Week one: Contour drawing of my left shoe with pastel to fill the negative space.

Felt good to draw using an easel!
