A wonderful cartoon from "The Economist", illustrating both the Canadian Prime Minister's remarks in Davos and Zelenskyy's speech.

From President Zelenskyy's speech in Davos:

Exactly a year ago at this forum, I said that Europe must know how to protect itself. A year has passed, and nothing has changed.

Today, Europe relies solely on the belief that NATO will act in times of danger. But no one has truly seen...

I’ve long argued that extreme brutality is a core element of Russian military strategy.

This video shows Russian soldiers torturing their own. The reason? They smoked their commander’s weed.

I must state that the 109th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade, represented by me, spent longer in Greenland than all the forces of the Bundeswehr.

Thanks for your service, guys, and enjoy the champagne on board🫡🥂

The Ukrainian flag was raised over the Kupyansk city hall building – over the very same Kupyansk whose “liberation” Putin solemnly proclaimed:

Russia benefits from the Greenland story, which could ultimately bury NATO as a structure – whether Denmark will respond to the possible seizure of the island or not.

It is more important for Putin to leave the Baltics without American cover than the Arctic, where he can’t do anything yet.

During this time, the Germans managed to reach Moscow and be pushed back to Berlin - and Putin got stuck near Myrnograd.

It's amazing: the Germans are holding a Ukrainian in prison, suspected of blowing up Nord Stream, which led to cuts in the Russian military budget.

In Berlin itself, pro-Russia far-left extremists are undermining the energy sector, leaving thousands of Germans without power and...

For President Zelenskyy, General Budanov's appointment as head of the presidential office is undoubtedly a reputational boost after all the recent corruption scandals.

For Budanov himself, I see only downsides – although I'm sure he'll explain everything in detail one day...

The Kremlin now has an urgent need to fan the flames of "popular anger and horror."

Television isn't up to the task.

Yes, it's great at maintaining a level of dullness and insanity, but it's incapable of creating the emotional surge that war and dictatorship now require.

Incredible.
Aren't you confused by anything you've said?
For example, that Russia is trying to occupy an independent country? (or is this already the norm in 2025?)
Or that despite Russia not having the strength for a full occupation, that didn't stop it from invading?

It's common knowledge that Putin despises the West, considering it weak.
But is he really so wrong, openly calling Western politicians "pigs", declaring revenge for the Cold War and the collapse of the USSR, which he wants to restore - and hearing endless "negotiations" in response?
