Ravensthorpe Reservoir, Northants - atrocious conditions this AM but the Red-throated Diver still present although a little distant. Back at Stanford, 40 White-fronts still present.

Right, we are now back from our winter birding trip to Spain so we will be back to being more active on all our social media and the blog from now on. Hopefully all #PWC2026 birders have had a good start to February and picked up on some decent birding!

Stanford Reservoir - nice addition to #PWC2026 with 5 self found Common Scoter this AM, a species that avoided the patch in 2025. Also, Stonechat new for the year. @lrosbirds.bsky.social

Stanford Reservoir - much better views of the geese flock from first light yesterday. 4 Tundra Bean Geese, 3 Pink-feet & 40 White-fronts all in the same field. Incredible to have these on the patch at the same time. Only the 42 White-fronts present this AM.

Also, 33 WF Geese and 3 Pink-feet!

Stanford Reservoir - 2025 annual ringing report (& birding year summary) www.stanfordrg.org.uk/srg_statisti... 14,070 birds ringed by Stanford Ringing Group in 2025 inc Barred Warbler, Wood Warbler, Pied Fly, Firecrest, 54 Gropper. 53 controls & 51 recoveries.

Stanford Reservoir - with the res iced over recently good to get the chance to check for colour rings on gulls. The site is excellent for Common Gulls so happy to pick up one ringed at Langenwerder, Germany (not the one in the image). Details here. @lrosbirds.bsky.social

Shustoke thrived in the Autumn with the low water levels… BN Grebe, Spotted Redshank, Scaup, Rock Pipit and in the Spring…Kittiwake,Black Tern, Little Gull,Sanderling.
Missed in the 3k…Osprey,Cattle egret,Avocet,Redstart,Whinchat,WTE,
Med Gull,Sandwich + Little Tern!

Stanford Reservoir - amazing year on the patch - 157 species for the site (all obs). 5 patch ticks for me - Lesser Scaup & Barred Warbler (both 1st records for Northants & site), Glossy Ibis (new for site), Wood Warbler & Slav Grebe - Happy New Year. @lrosbirds.bsky.social

Stanford Reservoir - 5 years without a Scaup on the patch and now 4 of the dam including a dapper Drake. Min of 55 White-fronts still and 2 Glossy Ibis - finishing 2025 strongly. @lrosbirds.bsky.social

Stanford Reservoir - only went to the patch for an hour & 2 new species for the year. 3 Scaup, the first since 2020 & then a staggering 56 White-fronted Geese. 2

Stanford Reservoir - when I found three Glossy Ibis on the patch in September I didn’t expect one to still be around 70 days later. Yesterday’s views were some of the best so far.
