The interview with @ezzyod.bsky.social is brilliant and worth your time to listen. She discusses our recent initiative passing in Everett, WA and what it means to the broader understanding of our connection to, and the importance of, watersheds.
The USA continues to experiment with the recognition of rivers as holders of legal rights, with the latest example the Snohomish River. I had a chat with KUOW Seattle to discuss the potential outcomes for the river & the wider Everett community.

Thank you @knkx.bsky.social for covering the story of our initiative passing in Everett, WA giving the Snohomish River Watershed the ability to stand up for its legal rights in court.
The referendum is part of the fast-growing rights of nature movement that has cemented into law rights of individual species and ecosystems. The laws are aimed at preserving the integrity of the natural world and have been enacted in more than a dozen countries, including Spain and New Zealand.
