There are parallels between what Trump did in Venezuela on January 3, 2026 and what Saddam Hussein did in Kuwait on August 2, 1990.

Both were war crimes directed by tyrants and—if the U.S. didn’t have the military it does—*both* would’ve been stopped by allied foreign invasions.

Almost 20 years ago, I warned we were heading toward a world where states invade each other at will, and that America had an obligation to restore the higher bar for going to war. Not gonna say I told ya so, but...well, okay, I will.

Trump is weak at home, and he can be stopped – so long as the domestic political logic of foreign intervention is recognized and turned against him. This act of war is about regime change in the United States. It only succeeds if Americans allow it to do so.

Some people are responding to criticisms of this as if people were saying “impeachment is obviously the right strategy.” No. The point is that “impeachment isn’t the right strategy because the GOP may start to be responsible” is an unfathomably stupid and insulting lie.
Asked about the possibility of impeachment, Schumer says "we hope that we can have support from our Republican colleagues to put a brake on this long before it gets that far"
