Why not take some time out of your day to read about a buddhist nun's epic, in the tamil lineage of Esoteric Theravada. Also happens to have been a Buddhist prison abolitionist.

One of the most emotional passages in THE LAST AMERICAN ROAD TRIP is about this park. My book is about taking my kids to as many US historic sites and national parks as I could before they were shut down or destroyed. Now they're shutting down the week the book comes out. Heartbreaking to be right.

When we look into Boran Kammathana (the old tradition(s) ) for theravada, we see that there are more similarities between east asian and himalayan buddhism. From bodhisattva bhumis, quasi-buddhas (including female ones!), even esotericism.

Kyoto has a fair amount of Kumano related shrines, this one is called Imakumano Shrine. The major attraction is the giant camphor that's prayed to as a kami of health and longevity. There's also various paintings and sculptures around the shrine showing different Kami.
