Beliefs are like shoes. Mine fit me, not you, but that doesn't make your feet bad. Old shoes fall apart. New shoes need breaking in.
Taking responsibility is an effective step toward purifying the heart & aligning with reality; anything less is to succumb to the intoxication of ignorance & delusion.

“Equanimity is not a state of apathy, of not caring. Equanimity is engaged, aware, open, ready. One might assume that equanimity is neither friendly nor unfriendly, but that is not the case. Equanimity is friendly-minded, at its core.”

"… Seeing new-come devas, fair and glorious
Who've lived the holy life, now well reborn.
Outshining all the rest in fame and splendor,
The mighty Sage's pupils singled out.
Seeing this the Thirty-three rejoice, their leader too,
Praising the Tathagata, and Dhamma's truths." (DN 18.13)

There never has been, is not now, & never will be one who is not flawed. Never imagine that today’s mistake is the end of the world, that’s just ego talking. Tomorrow is another day for us all, definitely including you.

Our focus is on the nature of this very mind/body phenomenon, that is, this firsthand experience. Contemplating the nature of external phenomena is more like a dalliance.

Guided by compassion and wisdom, all we can do is try to do good for oneself & good for others. The world is not perfect, go easy & take it day by day, moment by moment. Be your own best friend.

Interesting article but I don’t think the following is quite correct: “Buddhists believe that … outside your own cognition there’s no certainty anything exists.” It’s not so much about trying to figure out the nature of external things.
