The winner of our 2016 Gardens of the Year competition, Steve Moodey, created areas of shade and micro-climates to grow tender tropical plants in his south-facing garden.

What challenges have you tackled in your garden to create your dream space?

Gnaphalium uliginosum, Marsh cudweed growing in the walled garden pond at work this week.
The pond was very overgrown with fallen trees until 3 years ago and it’s now starting to throw up some interesting plants (interesting to me anyway)

We have a book that we put out on the day for visitors to browse. It shows a few pictures of the garden from the early days of its creation.
1st pic was in 2009 when we first got the keys to the house. 😳
2nd pic was probably taken a couple of years later. 🤗
3rd pic was taken Saturday morning.

Well this is a new one for me!
I’ve never seen or had a dahlia shoot from the middle of tuber before! 😳
I even poked my fingers underneath to see if it was rotted or hollow and something was growing up through it but No, it’s definitely coming from the tuber 🤷‍♂️ 🌱

Just been out in the car and would like to ask everyone a favour.

Please be mindful of toads and other amphibians in the road when you are driving. There are many making their way to their spawning grounds after waking from hibernation.

Please slow down a bit and keep an eye out.

Are snowdrop flowers variable in size depending on where they are growing? I’ve spotted this little clump in a part of the garden at work and it looks different to the majority on the other snowdrops here.🌱 🤔

What a morning!! 😍

Went to work this morning as usual.
Came home tonight as saw that trees have been planted in the grass verges of the street. I can see at least 8 from our upstairs windows. How fabulous is that going to look in years to come! 😍

A beautiful sunrise on my way in to Medley Manor Farm, Oxford this morning.
The fields are flooded but it makes the view even more spectacular.
Lots of wildfowl enjoying the water too.

Thank goodness that we aren’t forecast to get any more heavy rain this week.
My view to the left, The (waterlogged) Medley Walled Garden where I work.
My view to the right, The burgeoning River Thames by Port Meadow, Oxford.

With all the flooding at work again, it brings out some of the wildlife from around the farm. These Muntjac are usually seen near the ancient woodland but they have had to take more drastic action now that the woods are flooded.
Filmed this sat in my van whilst having dinner. 🤗

Spent the day digging out the last of the plants that I want to over winter in our outhouse. There may be more to cram in there if the weather gets REALLY cold 🥺🤪
Still one or two left to go but I’ve run out of compost 🌱
