Ramblings of a cricket trader, watch ~600 games a year and love all formats.

Warwickshire/Bears/Phoenix fan.
Excellent from Matt and Neil on affordability checks and problem gambling. A must watch for anybody with strong opinions on the subject, especially those on the left.
Thanks @racingtv.com for having me on today. Those interested in reducing gambling harm can align with those wanting to defend horse racing by joining growing calls for separate wallets and platforms for online casino and slots

Yet another empty stadium. It's hard to be in any way positive about the Champions Trophy!

Interesting catching technique from Gareth Delany!

That's a pretty dreadful PP. The bowling was poor and the batting even worse.

Not convinced things will get much more interesting anytime soon given the way Pakistan usually approach overs 10-30

Johnathan Campbell is captaining Zimbabwe on debut!

When was the last time that happened in a Test match? @zaltzcricket.bsky.social @awsstats.bsky.social

Well done to Usman Khawaja, pity he seems to be a lone voice among prominent cricketers when it comes to the sacking of Peter Lalor
February 4, 2025 at 9:46 AM
Peter Lalor was sacked by SEN halfway through the first Test between Aus and SL for retweeting support for Palestinians and it's barely got a mention.

Here's hoping some solidarity is shown by the fellow cricket writers at Cricinfo and @thecricketer.com by covering this

Triple wicket maiden!!

We're well beyond the embarrassing stage for this England W side and into humiliation. Predictable thrashing for a complacent and thin skinned side but I didn't expect to lose 16-0 and the wheels to come off to this extent.

Hopefully brings a much needed reality check and top to bottom changes

Giving rich people paying into their private pensions tax relief at the higher rate costs the government £23.6bn a year. The current Chancellor Rachel Reeves could pay relief at just the basic rate and pay freezing pensioners their fuel allowance eight times over. #toughchoices

Alex Hartley was spot on when she said this originally and I'm glad she's doubled down on it. The fitness of the England womens cricket team is well below what's needed at this level and part of the reason their fielding has been embarrassing for some time now

Great video from Jarrod breaking down recent match fixing claims in the BPL.

I trade numerous competitions a year and there's a reason the BPL is the only one I won't touch. In previous years the betting markets were like a script that would nearly always play out, seems this year is no different

That was the best innings I've seen on debut for some time from Lhuan-dre Pretorius, deserved a 100. Absolutely destroyed a strong bowling attack on a tricky Paarl pitch. He's only 18, got some future ahead of him.

Fair play Tom Rogers, that was a sensational innings!

7 overs of spin gone for 45/4, 8 overs of seam 106/0.

About to start the 16th over, the game is lost and he's still got 5 overs of spin available to bowl.

Alex Ross not going to be winning any captaincy awards anytime soon.

Anybody know why Melbourne's ground looks like it's just held a motocross event and then been ploughed?

What on earth is going on in the Big Bash! No ball tracking but players allowed to review LBWs, where the 3rd umpire has a look and guesses if the ball was going onto hit the stumps. Can't make this up!
December 20, 2024 at 10:14 AM
In general I don't mind when a T20 team sacrifices batting depth at 9 & 10 to play their better bowlers but when Riley Meredith and Billy Stanlake are batting in the 8th over of a game it's hard not to laugh

The umpiring in this SA v Eng womens Test has been beyond farcical, literally making the rules up as they go along. Hard to see how they can umpire another international game any time soon, you'd think if that happened in a men's game they wouldn't.

SA can consider themselves incredibly unlucky.

There's village cricket and then there's what Nonkululeko Mlaba just did. The perfect example of looking like you've never held a cricket bat before.

Another thriller in Zimbabwe, I always prioritise their home games when there are multiple matches on and they rarely disappoint.

Hopefully at some point this winter will be game involving India, Australia or England that's half as tense or back & forth as what Zimbabwe serve up on a weekly basis
December 11, 2024 at 3:07 PM
Final ball of the game:

4 runs to win for Tasmania
1 wicket needed for a SA win
Anything else and it's a draw

File under brain fart
