Weak easterlies making in roads this weekend leading to showers of hail and graupel. There’s a lot of options on the table as we go through this period (10-20th) from an early taste of Spring to the Beast From The East being fully unleashed. Tonights ECM below..

No White Christmas this year just a mild, cloudy and drizzly affair. However, there are some tentative signs of cold in early January. Take it with a pinch of salt for now but here's the GFS and ECMWF for the 1st of January 2025. As you can see there's a lot to be resolved #Christmas #uksnow ^Dan

Satellite from MrJamesCosgrove showing the recent snow extent across Europe. I'm sure you've all noticed the shift to mild and wet by now but all eyes on the lead up to Christmas #uksnow

Looking at the radar there's another 2-3 hours of #snow to come, maybe more after a lull.

Air temp now below freezing here and that's certainly helped it to settle now as it was slushy earlier.

Wind has picked too. #uksnow #Chadderton #OL9 7/10 @uksnowmap.com @snowwatch.org

Cold air will sink southwards over the next 12 hours thus bringing our first wintry spell of the season 🥶 SNOW RISK: Sunday-Monday North West Scottish Highlands, possibly Northern Ireland later on. We'll have more on snow risks later this evening, there's plenty going on! ^Dan

Next week Overview⚠️🥶

✅ Turning much colder
✅ Widespread frosts
⁉️ Snow extent uncertain

We'll need to look at higher resolution models this weekend for a (hopefully) clearer picture regarding any #uksnow ^Dan

The GFS overnight run (00z) has thrown a spanner in the works with a few more members going milder.

Two scenarios:
1⃣ Atlantic-Greenland ridge. Cold and wintry.
2⃣ Low cutting in, wintry in the north.
The less cold option normally wins out but there's still hope ^Dan

The first notable cold spell of the season is likely to arrive through the weekend & into early next week.

Widespread frosts are likely and yes, it seems possible that the "s" word might be mentioned too but exact details remain uncertain.

5% chance November 2024 to January 2025 will be cold but interestingly this does not preclude cold and wintry spells. It's important to remember these outlooks are updated often #UKWeather

No sign of any wintry conditions (YET) - However, we expect a largely dry, settled week as high pressure builds early on. Foggy, varying cloud and chilly nights. A welcome change! #UKWeather

The temp is set to tumble this weekend as our first northerly plunge of the Autumn sets in. But not before a bit of rain into Friday. Rest of the weekend looks to be chillier/brighter. Snow on the Scottish highlands, perhaps for the fells in the Lake District too. Max 9°C later in the period.

The last remaining snow patch in Scotland is just managing to stay intact on Aonach Beag. And as Jeam Howe says on Facebook “No good satellite images until back in early September. You can see it as a little dot in Planet 3m imagery from 05/09/2023 which is pretty cool!”
