Thousands of Germans and their American-born children were imprisoned along with Japanese Americans in US internment camps during WWII. Other internees were swapped for US POWs, sent “home” to a country they hadn’t known in decades. I spent most of the book shaking my head in disgust #booksky

Quick, fun YA thriller by an author great at combining mystery, thrills, even ghosts with social issues. After Kaylani’s dad is wrongly jailed for financial crimes, she’s sent to family friends for summer. But their riches and reputation can’t protect her from secrets, lies and murder #booksky

The Epstein Files Transparency Act is a law, passed by Congress on November 19 with an overwhelming vote. Complying with it was not optional. The Department of Justice did not comply.

I want to make sure this is very clear.

Yeah, people are fixating on a Cabinet Secretary being given a sovereign country to run because the president waged war without congressional approval and kidnapped the old leader. Weird that they’d get hung up on that.
WELKER: Mr. Secretary, are you running Venezuela right now?

MARCO RUBIO: Yeah. People are fixating on that. Here's the bottom line -- we expect to see changes in Venezuela

Fascinating true story about a man who abandoned his job and family to live as a hermit in the Maine woods for 27 years. He was finally arrested for breaking into local camps for the supplies he needed, and forced back into society. Some called him a criminal, others felt he was a hero #booksky

If you are a foreign president who commits crimes overseas, America will come get you, arrest you, and lock you up.

But if you are a US president who commits crimes here in the United States, America will give you immunity from prosecution, reelect you, and bribe you with billions of dollars.

When this author of dozens of children’s and YA books, most notably Hatchet, died 3 years ago, I read about his difficult childhood and how nature saved him. I expected a story of resilience in this memoir, but this was a beautiful and moving reflection. Like he’s telling a story by a fire #booksky

This YA horror/mystery packed a lot into the plot, a story of trauma, abuse, fear and resilience - and of course a really haunted house - where the humans are worse than the monsters. Similar in that way to Tiffany D. Jackson’s White Smoke. Beware of the bugs, lots of bugs #booksky

It's been a terrible year for American democracy, with the dictator Trump breaking laws left and right and the Supreme Court and Congress mostly letting him do it.
But sometimes when we fight, we win. And we must hold fast to our belief that the battle is worth it.
Here's to resistance in 2026.

My review of the Daughter of Montague series by Christina Dodd is on IG/SG. Rosie Montague (daughter of Romeo & Juliet) is 20 years old, unwillingly engaged to a prince, apprentice healer, & amateur detective. Each (cozy) mystery she solves brings her closer to ending her betrothal. Fun & witty.

Looking at the 9 reviews I’ve posted in the past few days, I feel I should admit that some are not recent. I’m also sharing ones from FB memories before Bluesky was a thing. Christmas vacation week does tend to be a prolific time for me to read though #booksky

This focuses on the long term damage to the people and the land. It suggests the truth has been minimized to protect the countries - including the US - who contaminated countless people during nuclear weapons testing and from the generation of nuclear power. It’s eye opening and awful #booksky

This YA novel in verse about clinical depression is infused with magic n fairy tales. I struggled a little to understand the metaphors but the author includes notes to explain. Once I finished, it became more clear. It could be the confusion is purposeful - because depression tells you lies #booksky

Sometimes when you finish a book, all you can say is wow. Damn. I raced through this in one day (love vacation weeks!). It’s a mystery with unexpected twists, a story of trauma, friendship, coming of age, and love in many shapes and sizes. It’s beautifully written in a unique voice #booksky
